This morning, the National Academy of Medicine published an important piece by five distinguished AIMES Alliance members highlighting physician workforce challenges in IHS, Tribal, and Urban Indian Health Program facilities and the need for expanded Graduate Medical Education (GME) in Indian Country. The piece also offers several recommendations for investments to improve physician shortages in Tribal communities. The American Indian Medicals Education Strategies (AIMES) Alliance is an active alliance that brings Tribal nations and organizations from different sectors together to advance partnerships and policy solutions that expand and fund graduate medical education partnerships in Indian Health Service, Tribally-administered, and urban Indian clinics and organizations.
