Following a number of warning letters in June, the FDA is now recommending that 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) be scheduled under the Controlled Substances Act. The administration is "specifically targeting 7-OH" — a highly potent opioid alkaloid derived from kratom. These products, often sold as gummies, shots, and drink mixes, pose serious risks to consumers and are not legally permitted as dietary supplements, foods, or approved drugs.
