Today Lighthouse MI celebrated another mission milestone as we broke ground on our Auburn Place and Beacon Place Apartments & Townhomes developments in our hometown of Pontiac, Michigan. This marks our fourth successful Low-Income Housing Tax Credit closing since March of this year, and I couldn't be more proud of and grateful for our team and the many partners who have made this possible for our community. https://lnkd.in/grTiTTv4 In 2019, we brought SOS and Lighthouse of Oakland County together to merge and form Lighthouse MI specifically to make a greater collective impact in meeting our community's dire need for affordable and supportive housing. While the pandemic soon pushed us to focus on expanding our basic needs emergency services, the 94 newly built and redeveloped homes that constitute the Auburn Place and Beacon Place projects are part of 211 units we currently have under construction between Pontiac and Detroit, contributing to more than 500 units developed in the six years since the time of our merger, with 65 additional units in our pipeline working to close on financing. Thank you very much to our partners, without whom these developments and associated supportive services would not be possible: Michigan State Housing Development Authority Cinnaire Oakland County, Michigan Government Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI) Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy Pontiac Housing Commission City of Pontiac, Michigan USA - Government Genisys Credit Union McGregor Fund Ethos Development Partners O'Brien Construction Fusco, Shaffer & Pappas, Inc., Architects and Planners ASTI Environmental | A Division of PEA Group Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. We are grateful to our incredible #volunteers! Every third Monday of the month, volunteers from First United Methodist Church join us for the afternoon shift in our food pantry. Today they were joined by friends from Big Beaver United Methodist Church to lend a hand. Together, they sorted and assembled pantry orders, matched them to each family's needs, and delivered them curbside to the families and clients we serve. They also jumped in to build and tape boxes, help out wherever needed, and keep things moving behind the scenes. Thank you to our First United Methodist and Big Beaver volunteers for your continued commitment to serving local families. You make Mondays at Lighthouse brighter. Want to get involved? NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS. A huge thank you to passionate volunteer and neighbor Patrice Rowbal who stopped by Lighthouse this week to drop off boxes and stock pantry shelves following from her Cereal and Mac and Cheese Drive. Patrice, a retiree and regular Lighthouse supporter, asked what the organization needed most this summer before launching the drive. Using Nextdoor.com, she rallied her Troy community collecting 50 boxes of cereal and 101 boxes of mac and cheese for local families facing food insecurity during the summer months. When school is out, the need for food assistance grows. Patrice boosted engagement through a friendly “Team Cereal” vs. “Team Mac and Cheese” competition, and her neighbors responded with generosity and excitement. Thank you, Patrice, and all who contributed to making this drive a success! Want to get involved at Lighthouse? Visit lighthousemi.org.
