About us

We are The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the largest nonprofit dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers. Since 1949, we’ve invested more than $1.3 billion in groundbreaking research, pioneering many of today’s most innovative approaches. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. And we are making an impact in the cancer community. More than 70 years of fighting blood cancers has led us to a game changing belief. The cures for cancer are in our blood. We focus on three key areas: Research We are the largest nonprofit funder of blood cancer research. Advocacy We advocate at the state and federal level for policies to ensure blood cancer patients have access to affordable care and the most innovative therapies. Patient Support We are the leading source of free information and support for blood cancer patients, including help finding appropriate clinical trials. • "As a nurse practitioner, my educational background in lymphoma granted me the advantage of early cancer recognition that others may not have had. My Oura ring provided alarming biometric data such as elevated basal body temperature, abnormal HRV, and poor sleep quality. Still, it's important to remember that these tools can't replace the need for hands-on medical care from a professional. I've been familiar with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) since childhood, recalling donation charts at restaurants. Upon diagnosis, I sought various resources, and LLS provided me with a life-changing grant. My oncologist used this to alleviate financial strain, including covering my patch for nausea. LLS's website offered valuable information on nutrition and managing side effects. I also found support through TikTok and Reddit, connecting with others who were facing similar challenges. Maintaining a positive mindset has been crucial as it's the one thing within our control. My husband, friends, and family have been my rock throughout this experience, ensuring I have emotional support and nutritious food. Taking care of oneself between treatments is vital! I'm grateful for LLS's assistance and encourage fellow survivors to remember that it's okay to ask for help. Allowing loved ones to support you makes them feel purposeful and strengthens your journey together." Nikki, we appreciate your willingness to share your experience with us. We are committed to providing support and resources to those affected by blood cancer. • What if we could treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in a way that’s safer, more precise and tailored to the each patient? LLS-funded scientist Dr. Reina Takeda is asking that question and working on the science to make it possible. AML is one of the fastest moving and most severe of all blood cancers. We're determined to change that. See how Dr. Takeda's work is unlocking better options for patients who can’t tolerate intensive treatment. 👉 https://bit.ly/3GOue7O

  • “In 2004, I discovered The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) when I joined Team In Training (TNT) to walk a half marathon in San Francisco. Supporting a friend who lost her dad to lymphoma, I was inspired to participate in similar events in the future. Fast forward to 2022, I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Remembering LLS, I sought nutritional guidance and peer support. Through the Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection® Program, LLS connected me with Deb, a fellow CML survivor, on the same medication. Her empathy and encouragement gave me hope for a full life despite my chronic cancer diagnosis. In spring 2023, I attended my first in-person LLS event in Santa Barbara, where I felt genuinely seen as a survivor, creating a deeply meaningful experience. Shortly after, I found solace in the LLS Community—a space where I discovered support, posed questions, and joined the CML group. Upon learning the Pen My Path writing program had reached capacity, I offered to help facilitate, as writing has always been therapeutic for me. In 2024, I led two cohorts, aiding others in processing emotions and connecting with fellow survivors and caregivers. In 2025, I plan to facilitate two more cohorts and continue utilizing the CML forum for support. Recently, I contacted LLS Advocacy regarding co-pay assistance after a law change left me with $250/month medication costs despite it being generic. I’m hopeful LLS can advocate for fairer access. LLS's community, services, and advocacy have made a significant impact on my life. I encourage anyone facing a blood cancer diagnosis or seeking ways to give back to explore the incredible difference LLS makes in the lives of many.” Join Kendra in the LLS Community and learn more about Pen My Path 👉 https://bit.ly/40EZcpt

  • “The Boston Marathon marked my 33rd fundraiser for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the 27th race with Team In Training (TNT), and the 6th Abbott World Marathon Major. With the support of amazing friends, teammates, and colleagues, I reached a lifelong goal—raising over $126,200 for LLS personally and over $1.6 million with the incredible teams I’ve been part of throughout the years, such as Team ChiLD and Dynamite Runners. Inspired by my best friend, Christy, who donated her bone marrow to save her sister's life, I joined LLS as an intern in 2017. Since then, I’ve grown through many roles and always found my work meaningful. In 2018, inspired by my boss at the time, Stacey—a lymphoma survivor and marathoner—I ran and fundraised for my first race, the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon. Post-race, motivated by my new Team In Training friends, I signed up for the 2018 TCS NYC Marathon, kicking off my Abbott World Marathon Majors journey. My Uncle Meng passed away in August 2021, just a month after a late-stage cancer diagnosis. When LLS helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, making medical costs more affordable, it was bittersweet—had it come sooner, he might have sought help earlier without fear of burdening his family with medical expenses or dealing with cultural health stigmas. As we continue to fundraise and advocate, I’m hopeful that more patients will see better outcomes. I have three other uncles who are lymphoma survivors, and many friends I’ve met throughout the years who have been impacted by cancer. On behalf of each of them, I’m thankful that LLS supports and explores care beyond the cure. Everyone deserves not just to survive but to thrive.” Go Shirley! We are celebrating your passion and dedication to improving the lives of those impacted by blood cancer. Our team is truly fortunate to have her as a shining example of resilience, determination, and compassion, as demonstrated through her achievements and advocacy efforts. Join us in making a difference—explore opportunities for a better future. Learn more today 👉 https://bit.ly/452LiyD
