  • At Countryside Elementary, literacy extends far beyond the classroom. When author Celesta Rimington visited, she connected with students during a Battle of the Books lunch filled with energy, curiosity and a love of reading. That conversation left such a mark that Rimington later included Countryside students in her book. This story underscores the impact of literacy programs and the essential role librarians play in fostering lifelong skills like critical thinking, communication and problem solving!   • The Academies of Loudoun is proud to continue its global research partnership with Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore. Ten ACL students spent July 31–Aug. 10 collaborating with their peers from Hwa Chong to conduct original research, develop innovative solutions and strengthen cross-cultural connections. This experience reflects the LCPS Instructional Framework in action—student-centered, authentic and grounded in real-world challenges. LCPS educators also shared thought leadership on generative AI at the Global AI Nexus of Schools consortium, contributing to conversations shaping educational policy and practice worldwide.   • Loudoun County Public Schools celebrated a milestone as Briar Woods and Tuscarora High Schools hosted a White Coat Ceremony on August 18, marking the second year of the Health and Medical Sciences (HAMSci) Academy! The event recognized students beginning their four-year journey in health and medical sciences, a program that builds health literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while preparing students for future study and careers in healthcare. A special thank-you to our partners, the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, the Loudoun Education Foundation and Inova Health, for supporting this important program.   • The Division of Family and Community Engagement took part in this year’s National Night Out alongside several incredible Loudoun organizations. Hosted by the Leesburg Police Department, National Night Out is a nationwide community-building campaign that brings neighbors and local law enforcement together to promote safer, more connected neighborhoods. Thank you to the Leesburg Police Department for leading such a meaningful event and to all the community partners who came together to celebrate and support one another.

  • A local CEO understands the power of connection, belonging and giving back. After learning more about Sterling Middle School, Carlos Garcia, CEO of Akumen, Inc., saw a reflection of his own story. As a young immigrant to the United States, Garcia benefited from the same kind of support that Sterling is providing its students today. Now he is giving back to support the next generation.
