The institution's courtyards open to the city and seek to connect with it, allowing for outdoor activity in tune with the urban energy and projecting a celebration of our Caribbean heritage. Casa Kai's landscape also recognizes the building's historic character and seeks to highlight and complement it. Furthermore, beneath its Caribbean greenery lies an ecological strategy for managing stormwater runoff, connecting the site with the geology of the site and restoring the functionality of its soil,” said landscape architect José Juan Terrasa-Soler, partner at Marvel . Exciting news for Union Square and 14th Street! The City of New York has committed funding to advance the next stage of the 14th Street Busway design study, bringing us closer to transforming the corridor into a true a “‘complete street,’-- one where pedestrians, bikers, delivery people, transit, and some cars all get their respective shares of the pavement.” Four years ago, Marvel collaborated with the Union Square Partnership to create the Union Square Vision Plan, a community-driven framework for expanding and reimagining public space in the heart of Manhattan. In addition to prioritizing pedestrian experience and mobility around the Square, the plan envisioned the transformation of the 14th Street corridor into a busway and addressed critical infrastructure needs, including recommendations for containerized waste management to support cleaner, more sustainable streets. We’re thrilled to see this shared vision moving forward and proud that Marvel has played a role in shaping it. Let's make art and make change! Marvel collaborated with Studio Two Three to reflect their ethos and mission in the renovation, transforming the former dance studio into a multifunctional space expressing the creativity of its members. Studio Two Three is a vibrant community arts space currently located in the Scott’s Addition neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. The non-profit organization provides space for creative advocacy initiatives and joins together over 180 artist members. The renovation includes studios for printing, photography, textile arts, letterpress, and a 3,000 SF community event area. The design draws inspiration from the building’s historic origins as a school and integrates integrates vibrant colors and finishes aligned with Studio Two Three’s goals. Say hello to Marvel’s first official Passive House!   We are pleased to share that Throop Corners, a 140 unit residential in Brooklyn, is now Phius Core 2021 Certified, a long but extremely rewarding process for our team.   There are a few different design variables that must be considered in regard to this special certification, such as building envelope, energy usage, water consumption, and solar. Blower Door Tests are conducted in order to measure how much air is entering or escaping the building, an important factor in reducing energy consumption due to excess air leakage. This test was conducted last summer at Throop Corners in anticipation of the certificate administration.   A big congratulations to the project team: Hector Ralat, Nebil Gokcebay, Tom Sherman, Athos Castro, Eduardo M. Take a peek into Doris Duke Theatre’s magical opening week celebrations, which included a historic ribbon-cutting that marked the official opening of the new theater, a nature walk through the medicinal garden, a planting ceremony, and the inauguration of the communal firepit.   The design of the theater allows for multi-use flexibility, so that the building can support performances, events, residencies, and more, sometimes simultaneously. Last week, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival put together an array of inspiring works and events that gave visitors the opportunity to experience the new Doris Duke Theatre to its full capability.   For the landscape design, Marvel has collaborated with Indigenous artists to incorporate indigenous principles into the site design, emphasizing ways of engaging with nature and culture. The Garden, collaboratively designed by Misty Cook and Kathi Arnold, is inspired by the Medicine Wheel and Many Trails Symbol, which represents unity amongst all, strength, and endurance of the Stockbridge-Munsee people. This area is surrounded by native plants with medicinal qualities, and guides access along the eastern and southern paths. Andre Strongbearheart Gaines Jr., a Nipmuc citizen, has led the design for the Fire Pit, which serves as a gathering place to reflect, heal, and celebrate.
