About us
The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) is an economic development and investment agency dedicated to supporting the growth and development of the life sciences in Massachusetts, home to the most verdant and productive life sciences ecosystem in the world. Through public-private funding initiatives, the MLSC supports innovation, research & development, commercialization, and manufacturing activities in the fields of biopharma, medical device, diagnostics, and digital health. Since its creation in 2007, the MLSC has strategically deployed over $700 million in Massachusetts, through a combination of grants, loans, capital infrastructure investments, tax incentives, and workforce programs. These investments have created thousands of jobs and propelled the development of new therapies, devices, and scientific advancements that are improving patient health and well-being in Massachusetts and beyond.

Today provided another example of why Massachusetts is the best place in the world for the life sciences because of our government’s continued support and partnership. Governor Maura Healey announced that she is launching the Discovery, Research and Innovation for a Vibrant Economy (DRIVE) Initiative to grow Massachusetts’s world-renowned research and innovation economy and create thousands of new jobs. As part of DRIVE, Governor Healey will file legislation proposing $400 million in state funding to retain world-class talent, preserve and create jobs across industries, and support a key foundation of the Massachusetts economy. Governor Healey will also sign an Executive Order establishing an Advisory Commission on Advancing Research and Discovery in Massachusetts. This Commission will convene leaders from medical, higher education, and economic development sectors and will be charged with recommending additional solutions to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem and advance scientific discovery and job creation in Massachusetts. "It wasn’t just a job. It could lead to something greater." Chelsea, MA resident Abraham Barrientos was a automotive technician for just under four years. One day at work, he was fixing an older BMW 3 Series with a radio that wouldn’t turn off, and while working on the car, he heard an ad for the MLSC Pathmaker program. The ad talked about switching career fields and joining the biotech industry with no prior experience needed, which really caught his attention. Today Abraham is a Manufacturing Associate at Repligen Corporation.
