Independent publishers are the heart and soul of a free and open internet. We provide diverse content, specific expertise, and personal experiences that inspire and educate a global audience. Don't let AI destroy our businesses. Real people do business with real people. • When it comes to AI crawling sites without permission, attribution, or compensation, the market won’t fix this problem on its own. The time to act is now. We support the U.S. Copyright Office’s position: generative AI erodes creators’ rights. But we aren’t sitting back and waiting to see what happens. We are actively engaging in industry-wide advocacy to protect creator interests, including: ✔️Engaging with the U.S. Copyright Office, FTC, and Congress ✔️Filing public comments that center on creator rights ✔️Working within industry groups like IAB, ANA, and Prebid ✔️Advocating for collective licensing models that work for creators ✔️Keeping creators in the AI value chain AI is an enhancement, not a substitution, for human creativity. Our focus continues to be on how creators are supported, not replaced, by AI. That means: 📍Tools to enhance your work, not replace it 📍Smarter content optimization 📍Streamlined publishing workflows 📍AI-powered time-savers that keep you in control The stakes are high. AI assistants. Walled gardens. Changing search behavior. We’re at a critical inflection point in how content is discovered and valued. If creators lose visibility now, they lose viability long-term. We believe it’s our responsibility to support creators during times of industry disruption. Our Commitment: 🤝Advocate for creators at the highest levels of policy and industry 🤝Build tools that let creators use AI on their terms 🤝Lead the way on fair, scalable licensing for the AI era 🤝Act now—because creators can’t afford the cost of delay We urge the industry, regulators, and platforms to: ‼️Enact Transparency Mandates by requiring clear disclosures of training data, attribution, and AI use ‼️Establish Creator-Centric Licensing by building fair licensing before AI dominance becomes irreversible ‼️Protect Discovery Equity by safeguarding diverse voices in AI search and recommender systems ‼️Enforce Copyright Protections - Training on copyrighted content is NOT fair use Don’t wait for action. Co-founder & CEO @ Mediavine | Programmatic Advertising Pioneer | Ad Tech | SEO | First-party Data | Digital Advertising | Website Monetization | Full-Service Ad Management For Content Creators

I co-founded Mediavine 21 years ago with a mission to help content creators grow their businesses by optimizing and monetizing traffic. For over two decades, we’ve stood by our 17,000+ publishers as both their advocates and monetization partners. Throughout our history, we’ve helped publishers navigate challenges through new tech solutions and continued education on evolving best practices. We are now at a pivotal moment in which publishers need stronger protections. That is why we’re calling on the U.S. Copyright Office to reconsider its current “wait and see” approach - effectively letting the market regulate itself. The stakes are too high and there is no time to spare. Please join me in supporting content creators by signing our petition highlighting a letter I wrote to the U.S. Copyright Office on behalf of Mediavine publishers and content creators everywhere. We urge the Office to consider the following positions: -AI-generated answers that pull from creator content must clearly credit, compensate, and link to the original source. -Training AI on copyright protected content without explicit permission should not be considered fair use. -Using creators’ work to train AI systems without their permission and compensation violates their intellectual property rights and undermines the economic value of their work. -Transparency should be mandated across all generative AI systems. -Platforms and model developers should be required to disclose data training sources, including whether copyright protected content was used. -Licensing frameworks must be developed that allow content creators to opt in and be paid for their work. -Support for exploration of extended licensing, opt-in registries, or new models that ensure creators share in the economic benefits generated by AI systems. -Search equity and content attribution must be protected. Mediavine is committed to building technology and policy solutions to support responsible use of AI, while defending the visibility, viability, and rights of the people behind the content. https://bit.ly/47l6p22 #Mediavine #ContentCreators #ProtectCreators

  • AI platforms have been pulling from publisher content without permission or pay. Now, industry leaders are stepping in to build standards that force accountability and protect content creators. Last week, Mediavine CRO Amanda Martin joined Google, Meta, and 80+ media executives at the IAB Tech Lab to draw a line: scraping without consent stops here. With many AI platforms ignoring publisher guidance like robots.txt and crawling without consent, the goal was clear: Build a technical framework that enforces control, consent, credit, and compensation from the start. “Industry bodies cannot dictate commercial decisions by its members, but it can create buy-in and adoption of the standard, or the line in the sand that we’re all going to act within,” said Amanda. “That’s what I’m looking to see come out of the IAB’s role.” The proposed LLM Content Ingest API would allow publishers to govern how, when, and by whom their content is used. It’s not about airtight enforcement. It’s about collective leverage and long-term sustainability for content creators. At Mediavine, we believe: 🔒 Attribution isn’t optional. It’s table stakes. 🔒 Licensing must work for independent publishers, not just the top 1%. 🔒 Scraping without permission is exploitation. This moment matters. Because if we don’t protect human-made content now, there may be nothing left to protect later. 📎 Read the full Digiday article here: https://bit.ly/4lUligr

  • Long-term success beats short-term promises every time. Publishers aren’t just numbers to us. They’re creators, business-owners, and, above all, people. The numbers that matter? RPMs and revenue share. Mediavine revenue shares are structured to grow as you do, helping publishers keep more of their earnings today, tomorrow, and well into the future. With Mediavine, real success is built to last.

  • 🎙️Podcast Feature Alert! Our CRO, Amanda Martin, joined the AdExchanger Talks podcast to break down what generative AI means for media quality, and what’s at stake for publishers, advertisers, and the ad tech industry. Her takeaway: AI is powerful, but human creativity is what sustains the open web and earns trust in digital media. As Amanda put it, “We believe that content should be human-generated and aided by tools like AI.” She also shared that “the human content that’s created and shared on the open web IS its essence. And if that gets eroded, we will have less trust…” Amanda also dives into: ☁️ What Cloudflare’s new “pay per crawl” move means for sites 📣 The misconceptions publishers and advertisers have about each other 📰 Why people aren’t talking about made-for-advertising sites as much anymore 🤖 How she uses AI personally and professionally 🎧 Listen at https://bit.ly/45jGztS
