I’m from Chisholm and I’m a senior at North Dakota State University majoring in Strategic Communication. ❓ What did you enjoy most about your internship? I truly enjoyed the team environment—it pushed me to ask questions and keep learning. Being surrounded by such knowledgeable and supportive people helped me grow both professionally and personally. ❓ What was your favorite project during your internship? Organizing the public tour event. It was my favorite because it allowed me to engage directly with our amazing community and share the exciting progress happening here. ❓ Why did you choose to intern at Mesabi Metallics? It felt like the perfect place to challenge myself and be a part of something so meaningful—helping launch a new mine in Minnesota for the first time in 50 years. ❓ What advice would you give to future interns? Ask questions! Every conversation is a learning opportunity—don’t be afraid to speak up and stay curious.

About us
Mesabi Metallics, an Essar Group company, is constructing a state-of-the-art 7-million metric ton Direct-Reduction (DR) grade iron ore pellet and mine with resources of 1.3 billion tons on over 16,000 acres in Nashwauk, Minnesota. The project is on track to be commercially operational in 2026, and once completed, it will be the first new mine and pellet plant in Minnesota in almost 50 years. Mesabi’s DR grade pellets will be strategically positioned to meet the demand of the Electric Arc Furnace market, ensuring supply chain security for DR grade pellets in the United States and replacing foreign imported pellets while powering the decarbonization of steel production.
