Today, on Purple Heart Day, we honor the brave U.S. service members who were wounded or killed in combat. Originally established by George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, the Purple Heart is now one of the most respected U.S. military decorations. It is awarded to service members who are wounded or killed in action against an enemy of the United States. At MetroStar, we’re proud to work alongside heroes like our very own Principal Software Engineer, Johnny Bouder. Yesterday, our interns wrapped up their summer projects with lunch alongside our CEO Ali Reza Manouchehri, CIO Jorge Vasquez and SVP of People + Culture Debbie Peterson, SHRM-CP. After a summer of building AI tools to help our teams move faster and work smarter, they took a well-deserved break. It’s the last week for our interns, of course, we're going to miss them! Over the past 9 weeks, our technology interns Mason Scofield, Jacob Edwards, and Shubhi Gandhi developed AI tools to help our teams get work done more efficiently. Our Innovation Lab team is on the ground at the Defense Tech HAB Hackathon, spending 36 hours building, designing, and launching a high-altitude balloon system that’s capable of collecting real-time data and tackling real-world challenges. We loved seeing Iva Hutson on stage at the ATARC (Advanced Technology Academic Research Center) Public Sector Women in IT Summit yesterday! She joined an incredible panel of leaders to discuss implementing AI in government and dropped a few memorable takeaways: ✔️ AI isn’t new. What’s new is how human-centered and accessible it’s become, thanks to advancements in tools and interfaces. ✔️ AI systems are much like toddlers; they learn through rewards. The better we understand their training, the better we understand their decision-making. ✔️ Culture matters most in any organization or team. It’s defined by the behaviors we accept, or don’t. If a culture tolerates harm, policies alone won’t fix it. We're grateful for spaces like this that bring thoughtful voices together to shape the future of government technology.
