This World Lung Cancer Day, we spotlight the power of better awareness, earlier detection, and improved treatment. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide - but quitting smoking, reducing exposure to pollutants, and regular check-ups can make all the difference. A fast, low-dose CT screening has been shown to identify lung cancer earlier when it is most treatable. Dr. Ryan Brown and Dr. Tim Heacock (pictured) and other Mission Health physicians are also expertly trained in minimally-invasive lung biopsy should it be recommended. Thank you to our skilled team of care providers, pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and oncologists who work to bring awareness to, help prevent, and treat lung cancer. Meet Amanda, a small business owner from Idaho who lost her partner, her business and her savings during a devastating cancer battle. Today, Amanda relies on the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits (EPTCs) to afford her own coverage, but if Congress doesn’t act, her premiums will spike nearly $4,000 a year. Like Amanda, 980,000 North Carolina residents rely on EPTCs to help them afford health coverage. Extending these tax credits could save lives. Find out how you can take action and get involved with Keep Americans Covered: https://lnkd.in/eyrRkrnb #HealthierTomorrows
"I lost my business. I lost my future. And honestly some hope. Without the health care tax credit, my premiums would go up close to $4,000 a year,” – Amanda, a small business owner whose life savings were depleted during her partner’s battle with cancer. If Congress allows the tax credit to expire, she – and millions of Americans – will have nowhere to turn to avoid devastating premium increases. Hear more of her story via Keep Americans Covered Amanda, a small business owner in Idaho, lost nearly everything during her late partner Robert’s battle with cancer: her business, her savings, and her hope. Today she relies on the health care tax credit to be able to afford health coverage of her own. If the tax credit expires, she will have nowhere to turn to avoid devastating premium increases. A new video from Keep Americans Covered follows Amanda’s personal story, highlighting the personal crisis facing millions.

Small businesses play an important role as job creators and are a pillar in communities nationwide. More than 4 million small business owners purchase healthcare coverage on their own and rely on Enhanced Premium Tax Credits (EPTCs) to keep premiums affordable. But unless Congress acts soon, these tax credits will expire at the end of 2025. Many small businesses may face increased costs or be forced to reduce or eliminate employee health coverage. At Mission Health, caring for our community extends far beyond our physical walls. Tracey Gates, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, shows yet another way that we can help people, before they ever enter the hospital, through the Rachel Silver Distracted Driving program. This program is an essential part of many local drivers ed classes and aims to teach new drivers about the dangers of distracted driving and ways to mitigate them. She covers use of cell phones, impact of additional passengers, and much more. Did you know that in 2024, distracted driving was the cause of over 19,000 injuries throughout North Carolina? Our goal with the Rachel Silver Distracted Driving program is to reduce that number and keep our community safe. While our Emergency Room is always open, we hope to see fewer visits due to distracted driving in the coming years. To learn more about how you can help remove distractions while driving, visit NCVisionZero.org #CareLikeFamily #DistractedDriving
