Legionnaires’ disease—a serious type of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria—is behind a recent outbreak in Harlem, likely linked to a building’s cooling tower. Cases have been reported across ZIP codes 10027, 10030, 10035, 10037, and 10039. The illness is not contagious and can be treated effectively with antibiotics if caught early. Symptoms can resemble the flu—fever, cough, shortness of breath—but may also include nausea, diarrhea, or kidney issues. Most healthy people aren’t at risk, but those over 50, smokers, or people with weakened immune systems should take extra care. It’s still safe to drink water, shower, and use your air conditioner. “AI is only as good as the underlying data.” Dr. Nicholas Gavin shares that patients have a critical role to play in shaping the future of care. By harnessing data from wearables, medical records, and research, we can responsibly integrate AI across healthcare—from administrative improvements to enhancing care at the bedside. The goal?
