Happy 100th Birthday to Mr. Wayne Davis (Veterans Home of CA Barstow)! 🎂 What began as a simple wish for 100 birthday cards became something truly remarkable. Wayne received over 1,200 cards from across the nation! 💌 From local schools to communities as far as Washington, D.C., and beyond, the outpouring of love filled his day with joy and gratitude. Thank you to everyone who helped make this milestone unforgettable. At 100 years young, Wayne reminds us all what it means to live fabulously!

CalVet was excited to participate in a special key ceremony on August 23 in the City of Palmdale for veterans in the Residential Enriched Neighborhood program. CalVet Secretary Lindsey Sin was among those on hand to celebrate the new veteran homeowners. 🏠

Today we remember the 13 American servicemembers killed in the Abbey Gate suicide bomb attack in Kabul on August 26, 2021. Four of those killed were California natives: · Marine Corps Sergeant Nicole L. Gee, 23, of Sacramento; · Marine Corps Corporal Hunter Lopez, 22, of Indio; · Marine Corps Lance Corporal Dylan R. Merola, 20, of Rancho Cucamonga; and · Marine Corps Lance Corporal Kareem M. Nikoui, 20, of Norco. The other American heroes lost were: · Marine Corps Lance Corporal David L. Espinoza; · Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Darin Taylor Hoover; · Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Christian Knauss; · Marine Corps Lance Corporal Rylee J. McCollum; · Marine Corps Corporal Daegan W. Page; · Marine Corps Sergeant Johanny Rosario; · Marine Corps Corporal Humberto A. Sanchez; · Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jared M. Schmitz; and · Navy Petty Officer Third Class Maxton W. Soviak. We honor their sacrifice and promise to never forget.

HCD today announced 3 Homekey+ awards totaling $75.5M to help fund 200 permanent supportive homes and services for veterans and other Californians experiencing or at risk of homelessness and living with behavioral health challenges. Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency To date, Homekey+, funded through voter-approved Prop 1, has awarded $178.4M to support 10 projects to create 518 affordable homes with supportive services across CA - 88 homes which are reserved for veterans exiting or at risk of homelessness with behavioral health challenges. Today’s awards to County of Ventura, County of Santa Clara and City of Oakland demonstrate Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s unprecedented commitment to addressing housing stability, homelessness and associated challenges.
