NAFOA was founded over 40 years ago as the Native American Finance Officers Association to highlight the role of tribal finance in fostering economic opportunities. The U.S. Treasury will hold a virtual Tribal consultation on September 15 at 1:00 PM EST to discuss implementation of a newly expanded Adoption Tax Credit for Tribal families, effective in 2025. This follows the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB, P.L. 119-21), which included provisions from the Tribal Tax and Investment Reform Act of 2025 (S.2022). These changes recognize Tribal government determinations of special needs on par with state determinations — significantly improving access to financial support for Tribal adoptive families.
