NSWCDD donated 3D printers and 3D scanner materials to the Academy of Technology and Innovation at the University of Mary Washington (ATI-UMW), giving students hands-on access to the same maker-space technology our own innovators use every day. ATI-UMW's unique, project-based curriculum is reshaping what high school can be in Virginia, helping students build high-tech skills, experiment with rapid prototyping and think across disciplines. These are the very skills we rely on at Dahlgren, and we're excited to nurture them early in our future talent pipeline. Did you know⁉️ Just 12 days after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, World War II ended—and Dahlgren Naval Proving Ground played a key role in the victory. From testing guns, rockets and munitions to pioneering the VT Proximity Fuze and refining bomb delivery systems, Dahlgren’s work ensured U.S. naval weapons were battle-ready. Capt. NSWCDD Technical Director (Acting) Shawna McCreary, SES, and Commanding Officer Capt. Joe Oravec welcomed back Manuel Hermosilla, SES, Deputy Commander for Cyber Engineering and Digital Transformation at NAVSEA, to Dahlgren. His visit provided an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of the Naval Systems Engineering Resource Center (NSERC), which offers centralized and on-demand cloud services and platforms developed at NSWCDD. From virtualization of hosting infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment to driving Navy IT modernization through rapidly deployable solutions, NSERC has been pivotal in reducing costs, boosting performance and enhancing security. With more than 25 years of NSWCDD’s expertise, NSERC’s flexible platforms empower mission owners to innovate rapidly, delivering next-generation capabilities. ⚓🧑🔬Future scientists and engineers in action! This summer, 15 high school students joined the Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) at NSWCDD, our largest cohort in recent years. Over eight weeks, these aspiring innovators worked side by side with Dahlgren scientists and engineers, designing, developing and programming unmanned systems (UxVs) and gaining hands-on experience in real-world naval research.
