"Every year, thousands of children and teens enter the foster care system, often with little more than the clothes on their backs. Many lack basic necessities such as clothing, toiletries, and personal belongings, making an already difficult transition even more challenging. Community Foster Closets play a crucial role in supporting vulnerable youth by providing essential items to foster, relative, and kinship families, ensuring children feel comfortable, cared for, and valued." On World Humanitarian Day, we honor those who risk everything to bring hope, safety, and relief to those affected by conflict, disasters, and hardship around the world. This day reminds us of the vital role humanitarian workers play in protecting vulnerable children and families, often under the most challenging and dangerous conditions. World Humanitarian Day calls on all of us to recognize these heroes, raise awareness of the ongoing global need for humanitarian aid, and take action to support those who are most vulnerable.

Today is National Non-Profit Day, a time to recognize the incredible impact non-profit organizations have on communities. At National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP), we have been committed for nearly five decades to walking alongside children, youth, and families, providing the support, advocacy, and care they need to thrive. Our work is possible because of the dedication of our employees, the trust of the families we serve, and the support of those who believe in our mission. As always, we’re not asking for money. We’re asking for action. Whether it’s becoming a foster parent, volunteering your time to mentor someone, or advocating for others, your involvement can change a life. We aim to be a safe place, a strong voice, and a source of hope. Today, we honor all non-profits working to make the world better, and we thank our community for being part of this journey. This International Peace Month, NYAP celebrates the vision of our founder, Dr. Mubarak Awad, a lifelong advocate for peace, compassion, and community. Growing up in challenging circumstances, Dr. Awad was deeply influenced by his mother’s belief that peace can be built through kindness, understanding, and care for others. With a background in social work and psychology, he dedicated his life to helping children, youth, and families thrive. In 1978, he founded the Ohio Youth Advocate Program, which has grown into National Youth Advocate Program, to provide safe, supportive, and family-centered care in communities across the nation. His legacy of empathy and service continues to inspire our mission today. We believe peace starts with safety, belonging, and hope, and it begins with all of us. Learn more at nyap.org.
