♿ This month marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights law signed in July 1990 that transformed accessibility and inclusion across the United States. We are also celebrating #DisabilityPrideMonth! ❤️💛💚💙🤍 🏫 We’re proud to continue working with our partners at NYC Public Schools to expand access to school buildings and programs for students and educational professionals with mobility impairments and other physical disabilities. 📈 Building on prior Capital Plans, the City has increased funding to accelerate the creation of additional accessible options of schools while continuing to upgrade our existing partially accessible buildings. Accessibility renovations include: 💙 Installing elevators, wheelchair lifts, ramps, and automatic door openers; 💙 Widening partitions and doors; 💙 Making public assembly spaces ADA compliant; 💙 Creating accessible bathrooms, classrooms and offices; 💙 Providing Assistive Listening Systems for those with hearing impairments; 💙 And, adding accessible water fountains and bottle fillers. 💰 We have allocated over $1.5B in our FY 2020-2024 and FY 2025-2029 Capital Plans for 75 accessibility projects: 🚧 52 are in active construction; ✏️ 8 are in design; 🔍 9 are being reviewed to determine the scope of work; ✔️ And, 6 have been completed. 🤝 Equity is at the heart of this work, with project selection guided by the SCA/NYCPS Accessibility Committee to ensure fair distribution across school districts. We are also thankful for the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities’ (MOPD) support as we continue to make NYC a place for all through interagency partnerships and community-driven actions. #ADA #AmericanswithDisabilitiesAct

Sometimes we find surprises at construction sites! 🧱👀 No blueprint would’ve featured this cool find! At the Arthur A. Schomburg Educational Campus (X163) in the Bronx, the construction crew uncovered a 50-year-old time capsule just three days after its intended opening date – June 10th, 2025! 🕰️ The capsule featured newspaper clippings, class rosters, drawings, photograph then head administrators and a letter to "the students of the future,” all from class 2-306 in 1975. 💌 The Campus moved into a new building last September, and the capsule was found while crews were continuing to demolish the original building, where a playground will be built. 🏗️ Special thanks to News 12 The Bronx for sharing this beautiful story! 🙌 #TimeCapsule #ArthurASchomburg #TheBronx #X163 #X496 Video: News 12 the Bronx

Today was nothing short of perfect — perfect weather, perfect vibes, and the perfect way to welcome the first day of summer! ☀️🌿 Today, we celebrated the grand opening of the brand-new Carol Pino Learning Garden in Bergen Beach — a 2-acre, hands-on learning haven for over 1,100 students from P.S. 312 and I.S. 78! 🌱👩🌾👨🌾 Starting in the 📅 2025–26 school year, students will explore hydroponics, composting with worms, and pollinator garden studies, and learn how to plant, tend, harvest, and prepare herbs, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. 🥕🥬🍏 The Garden has an open grass field with picnic tables, planting beds, a composting area, and a fruit orchard. Additional facilities include a greenhouse, flower and herb gardens, a storage shed, an outdoor kitchen pavilion, and bathroom amenities, which will all be maintained by the Horticulture Society. 🌸🍎 A classroom unlike any other — rooted in nature and built for the future! 🌻🌎 #CarolPinoLearningFarm #Sustainability

🏆 Congratulations to Stanley Dahir, our Chief Design & Construction Innovation Officer, who received the 2025 Energy Champion Award today at the Energy Recognition Ceremony led by NYC Citywide Administrative Services' Division of Energy Management! 🌱 The Award honors facilities, trade, or administrative staff members for their excellence in implementing energy-efficient building practices and for the support they provide to the agency’s energy team in achieving NYC’s decarbonization goals. 💡 Stanley and his team create new design standards for NYC’s public schools, incorporating passive house design concepts, and leveraging cutting edge mechanical systems such as heat pumps, geothermal systems, water reduction strategies, and measures to combat the heat island effect and enhance climate resiliency. 🤝 Working collaboratively with other SCA departments, Stanley is implementing these sustainable design concepts into real projects, all in alignment with SCA’s master plan to eliminate fossil fuels in all existing NYC Public Schools’ facilities and all future new buildings in a responsible, cost-effective way. 🗨️ “This award is a recognition of the agency’s dedication to this effort, and I would like to thank the many departments for their commitment in making this successful,” said Stanley. We are just gearing up for the long-term goal to reduce carbon from our neighborhoods.” ⚡ The Ceremony was established to recognize NYC facilities management and energy management employees who have made an impact in reducing energy use, increasing energy efficiency, earning demand response revenue, and supporting overall clean energy and decarbonization goals. 🗽 A big thank you to Stanley for your visionary leadership and relentless commitment to a greener, more sustainable NYC! #EnergyChampionAward
