24,801 - that is how many pets are in happy homes this week - almost 18,000 cats and 6,500 dogs! I am so inspired by the results of PetSmart Charities' National Adoption Week. I was in Colorado for the grand opening of our Everyday Adoption Center, located inside the PetSmart store in Westminster, in partnership with our friends at Animal Friends Alliance. Our adoption numbers are up from last year, which is wonderful in every way, including showing so clearly that people want to adopt pets, and they do so when we are able to reach them! Here's a great example of an adoption story I was lucky enough to witness in person: A group of us went out for dinner at a local brewery. We brought some adoptable dogs with us, of course — and one was a perfectly shaggy, fluffy pup named Mt. Joy. He lived up to his name, greeting everyone he met with enthusiasm! A family there that night came over to meet Mt. Joy, and fell in love on the spot. It turns out they had been looking for a dog exactly like him — and there we were, with this guy wearing his "Adopt Me" scarf. It was meant to be. The family came into the Everyday Adoption Center the next day to fill in their paperwork. Mt. Joy's name is Seamus now, and we’ve heard he settled in very nicely. The whole week was full of inspiration. Store leader David brought his young kids on a team tour of Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region — even on his day off. Bryan McCormick, Spencer Sahagun, Brett Saxon, Dominic DiPersia and so many others spent time touring and working on adoptions with us. Huge shout out to Kenneth Rogers and the team at Store 253 who are making magic with their partners Emma Shin and Mountain Puppy Rescue. They adopted 15 cats and 45 dogs last week! I'm grateful to the many people who helped make the week so extraordinary, including the incredible PetSmart Charities team, our animal welfare partners, the media outlets that covered these happy “tales,” our best friends at PetSmart, and all the people who opened their hearts and homes to pets in need! Thank you!
