Recently, someone said to me, “People spend their whole lives looking for the passion you have for this.”   Supporting founders is the reason I do what I do.  It’s why I joined Plexal in the first place to be part of Cyber Runway, the UK’s largest cyber accelerator (funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology). I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in an entrepreneurial family. I’ve seen firsthand the risk, grind, imagination and sheer determination it takes to build something from nothing. It’s not easy and it’s not for everyone. The risk is real and so is the courage. So, to walk alongside founders during their journey to help equip them with the necessary tools, is something I consider a privilege. When they open up, share their dreams and challenges, that’s not just work, it’s a true honour. Over the past 20 months, I’ve worked with 70+ startups a huge amount of which were through Cyber Runway with a team that puts founders first at every step (Diane Gilbert, Monika Radclyffe, you both definitely deserve recognition for that!). Recently I was chatting with Nate Dunning, who came through both the Launch and Grow streams of Cyber Runway. When I first met his co-founder David Read at Infosecurity Europe, they had an idea. I spoke to them and they applied. A year later, they’re full time on their startup. When Nate said to me:  “People spend their whole lives looking for the passion you have for this,” I reflected on my work with newfound appreciation. This work lights me up. Crisis contingency planning is about predicting population response – and this is at the heart of HMGCC Co-Creation’s latest funded challenge.
