The passage of the HITS Act is a direct result of years of advocacy by our team, #RecordingAcademy members, and industry peers. The law provides independent music creators with tax relief by allowing them to deduct the cost of sound recording and production expenses on their taxes — up to $150,000 — in the year the expenses occur, rather than paying off the costs over the life of the recording. It's a step toward a fairer, more sustainable music industry. 📲 Learn more about the significance of the bill: grm.my/3URjkBf ▶️ Get to know how our efforts helped lead the way to its historic victory: grm.my/4oDtMub

In a major win for the music community, the Help Independent Tracks Succeed (HITS) Act was signed into law this month. 🎶 This monumental victory is a direct result of years of persistent advocacy by the #RecordingAcademy and its members, which have collectively championed the HITS Act from its inception to its passage. Since 2020, the Academy has been steadfast in educating members of Congress about the HITS Act and building support. With its passage, the HITS Act will allow artists, record producers, and songwriters to deduct the cost of sound recording and production expenses – up to $150,000 – in the year they are incurred, rather than amortized over the life of the recording. The bill also gives music the same treatment in the tax code as other creative industries like film, television, and live theatre. 📲 Learn more about how our efforts helped secure this historic moment.
