Related Companies’ summer 2025 intern class has wrapped up an incredible 10-week program in New York, Chicago, Boston and California. From learning about our business from the leadership team to giving back through volunteer activities and connecting at networking events, we are certain that this experience laid a strong foundation for their professional paths!

Last Saturday, Related Beal celebrated the grand opening of Bunker Hill Laundromat in Charlestown, MA, joined by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Massachusetts State Senator Lydia Edwards, Boston City Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata, and project partners. As the neighborhood’s only laundromat, it will address a critical shortage in the community and will make laundry more accessible for residents. The laundromat is part of Related Beal’s $150 million investment in Charlestown to support the Charlestown Labs development. 

Last Tuesday, Related Affordable celebrated National Night Out—an annual event that brings neighbors and law enforcement together to build community—at Hunters Point in San Francisco, CA; Robert Pitts in San Francisco, CA; Oak Center in Oakland, CA; Mohr in Oakland, CA; and San Juan Del Centro in Boulder, CO. Events included barbecues and refreshments, games and activities for kids, a back-to-school backpack and school supply giveaway, and more for residents across the country.

Related Affordable has unveiled the transformation of Tompkins Terrace, a 193-unit affordable residence located in Beacon, NY. The renovation has preserved the affordability status of this community for years to come, while enhancing its residents’ quality of life with remodeled units, common areas, landscaping and new amenities, including a community room, fitness center, a playground and free internet across the complex.

Last Thursday, Related Midwest, the Related Affordable Foundation, and Related Affordable celebrated the opening of two new playspaces for children ages 3–5 at Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes—a 628-unit affordable housing community in Chicago. Thank you to all the residents, local community members, and Related employees who came out to volunteer and celebrate the partnership with KABOOM! to build the new playgrounds.

On Tuesday, Related California celebrated the grand opening of Felix, a 168-unit apartment building in Downtown Santa Rosa. Designed by David Baker Architects, Felix blends modern residences and amenities in the city’s most charming, walkable neighborhood. This is the story of Myla: a 15 year old resident of the Park Club Apartments in Milwaukee. Thanks to the Related Affordable Foundation, this Summer she has been working at the Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s Summer Camp as a High School Assistant — an experience that’s broadened her perspective and inspired her future career path. We love to see our communities thrive!

On Tuesday, Related Beal celebrated the topping out of Leiden Center II (LCII) at Innovation Square in Boston’s Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park. The 345,000-square-foot life science development, designed by SGA (Boston | New York) and DREAM Collaborative, LLC and fully leased to Vertex Pharmaceuticals, marks a major milestone for one of Boston’s most significant biotech projects. When completed in early 2027, Leiden Center II will join Leiden Center I, also developed by Related, to form the Leiden Campus—solidifying the area as a premier life sciences hub.

This spring, New York Restoration Project (NYRP), supported by a grant from Related Affordable Foundation, created two new community gardens at North Park Apartments and Marine Terrace, two affordable housing communities in the Related Affordable portfolio. Over the next few weeks, NYRP will also be hosting workshops and events for residents where they will learn how to care for their new gardens.
