Tutorial: Fine-tuning RF-DETR for drone detection 🔥 🔥 🔥 I’ve spent the last two weeks working on an end-to-end RF-DETR fine-tuning tutorial, and it’s finally here. You can use it to fine-tune RF-DETR on any dataset, not only drones. - Learn the COCO annotation format - Train RF-DETR in Google Colab - Adjust hyperparameters for optimal performance - Evaluate model accuracy - Save and deploy your trained model RF-DETR-N outperforms YOLO11-N by 10 mAP points on the COCO benchmark while also running faster at inference. RF-DETR is the top object detector on the RF100-VL benchmark, where RF-DETR-M beat YOLO11-M by an average of 5 mAP points across aerial datasets (drone, satellite, radar). Its mix of lightweight design, speed, and accuracy, combined with the open-source Apache 2.0 license, makes it an excellent choice for deployment on drones and other mobile devices. ⮑ 🔗 YouTube video: https://lnkd.in/dNKvYxDN Google Colab and the dataset I used are linked in the comments 👇🏻 #computervision #opensource #objectdetection #drones #transformers

I don't know about you, but it sure bugs me when my family comes in and out of the room, without closing my door 🫠 That's why I decided to build an automatic door closing tool with Roboflow! It uses an iOS app running a model detecting the state of my door, to relay events to an ESP32 board that activates a piston to close my door! Interested in learning more? Manually entering shelf label information into a Point of Sale (POS) system to validate product prices can be time-consuming and error prone. Here's a blog: https://lnkd.in/dpdppBV8 I wrote that presents a workflow that enables store employees to simply take a photo of a shelf, after which the workflow automatically validates the shelf labels against the POS database on a server, streamlining the entire process. Check it out. I used Roboflow Workflows to build my solution, which essentially saved me a lot of hours by removing the need to rewrite logic for cropping and similar tasks.

Excited to share what I built at Ignition Hacks v.6 this past weekend! Over the course of an intense 24-hour hackathon hosted by Ignition Hacks, student-led and held August 15-16, 2025 at TMU’s Ted Rogers School of Management, I developed Coachly with a team, an intelligent fitness app that provides real-time feedback on weightlifting form using computer vision. What is Coachly? Coachly uses Roboflow’s computer vision API to detect human poses and analyze key lifts like squats, bench presses, and deadlifts. It then delivers personalized corrective feedback to help users improve technique safely and effectively. Why it matters: Real-time guidance: Bridging the gap between virtual workouts and personal coaching. Form-focused: Reduces injury risk by spotting misalignments and suggesting adjustments. Accessible innovation: Makes feedback around technique more broadly available, even without a trainer. Tech stack highlights: Roboflow computer vision API for pose detection Streamlined, lightweight architecture ideal for rapid prototyping (link to repo below!) Check out the project and demo here: • GitHub: https://lnkd.in/gWqmF8hr • Hackathon page: https://lnkd.in/g9eBwqV8 A huge thank-you to the Ignition Hacks team for hosting such an inspiring event supporting over 200 students globally with workshops, mentorship, and community. Looking forward to refining Coachly further, improving accuracy, expanding exercise detection, and even building integrations for mobile applications or AR feedback experiences. If you’re interested in pitching in or exploring partnerships, I’d love to connect! #Coachly #FitnessTech #MachineLearning #ComputerVision #Hackathon #IgnitionHacks #Devpost

GenAI/LLM vs good old specific AI, the battle is on for vision models! Roboflow just released a comparison benchmark of GPT-5 with other VLM (vision language models): https://lnkd.in/g8m4uuEu And the most interesting part may not be about GPT-5... Big thanks to the team for also putting comparison with other techniques such as a good old Yolo model or grounding DINO. And guess what? Computer vision AI beats VLMs. For researchers, obviously, we should keep pushing the boundaries of what VLMs can do. But at least for now, in the industry, we may be better off by using the less sexy but more effective good old vision specific AI. While doing some experiments on a simple vision task: background removal, I also found that while Flux Kontext is good, our several years old AI mask is still better. #genai #vlm #gpt-5

What if your business could see… and act instantly? That’s the power of combining Computer Vision with Automation. Turning images into insights and insights into actions, without human intervention. In my latest blog, I break down how I built a workflow using Roboflow + n8n that: 📂 Detects humans in images the moment they’re uploaded to Google Drive ⚡ Sorts them automatically into “Selfies” or “No Selfies” folders 📈 Learns and improves over time for even greater accuracy This isn’t just a tech demo; it’s a blueprint for how businesses can save hours, reduce errors, and scale smarter. 🔗 Read the full guide here: https://lnkd.in/gW5PmaRp #Automation #ComputerVision #Roboflow #n8n #AI #BusinessGrowth #Productivity
