Sacramento Valley Manufacturing Alliance -SVMA was proud to join Yuba College in celebrating the incredible achievement of their Advanced Manufacturing Team on Friday, August 22, 2025. Earlier this year, students Wyatt Curry, Phoenix Farrell, and Adam Davis, along with their instructor Joe Bauer Joe Bauer, took first place in the Project MFG Skills Competition hosted at SW Illinois Technical College—earning a $100,000 prize shared between the students and Yuba College’s Advanced Manufacturing Program. This success reflects the countless hours these students dedicated in the Yuba College shop, preparing for one of the most competitive manufacturing challenges in the country. 👏 Special thanks to Nic Prather and Kingsbury Manufacturing (Yuba City) for sponsoring the team, making it possible for them to compete at the regional tournament in Utah and the finals in Illinois. 👏 A big thank you as well to Michael Bagley, Dean of Industrial Innovation at Yuba College, Charlie Pooler, Assistant Professor of Mechanical & Mechatronic Engineering at Chico State, Dan Turner, lead welding instructor and department chair at Yuba College & Julie Muir, Director of Employer Partnerships for the North/Far North Community Colleges, for leading a dynamic discussion with the students. 👏 And gratitude to our employer panelists for sharing their time, expertise, and inspiration: Sara Woods, Welding Manager at Siemens Mobility & Yuba College alum Nic Prather, Regional Sales Manager, Kingsbury Manufacturing Kevin Lopes, President of Intech Machine Aaron Esselman, PE, Yuba Water Agency Mike Gyorfi Gyorfi, retired VP, Schilling Robotics/TechnipFMC This celebration highlighted the power of employer partnerships with community colleges in developing the next generation of skilled manufacturers.
