Hi LinkedIn! I’m Mahima Suresh – It’s great to connect! This summer, I worked with Samsung Electronics America’s US Public Affairs office as a Policy Analyst Intern. Representing such an incredible company in our nation’s capital has been an honor, and has helped me gain insight into how the private and public sectors intersect. From meeting with congressional offices on Capitol Hill and attending fundraisers on behalf of the company, to contributing to Samsung’s policy strategy, these past 10 weeks with #Samsung have been packed with truly rewarding learning experiences. Continuing with our 15 Stories of Impact leading up to our 15th Day of Service this September, we’re proud to spotlight our longstanding partnership with Hackensack Riverkeeper, Inc. Founded in 1997 by Captain Bill Sheehan, Hackensack Riverkeeper works to protect, preserve and restore the Hackensack River for the benefit of the people and wildlife that depend on it. Thanks to their efforts, wildlife in and around the river are thriving more than they have in decades.    Not only have Samsung employees teamed up with Hackensack Riverkeeper to clean hundreds of pounds of trash, protect and preserve the river that runs through the heart of our community, but we have also donated technology to enhance the value of the programming that this incredible organization can provide. Meet Laurie Roderick, Staff Engineer and Senior Engineering Manager at Samsung Electronics America. Recently, Laurie utilized Samsung’s legal benefits program to help her family complete a process that may be unfamiliar to some: second-parent adoption. “While non-birthing parents in same-sex couples are often listed on birth certificates as my wife and I are for both our children, many of us choose to take the additional step of formal adoption. This helps ensure that the non-birthing parent is recognized as a legal parent, especially in cases where the birth certificates alone may not provide sufficient legal protection.” Through this program, Laurie and her wife were able to complete and legally obtain this type of parental adoption of their children with minimal financial cost. “Family is built on love, but ensuring its legal recognition and protection is just as crucial. We were happy that we signed up for the legal benefit program. The lawyer we found helped guide us through this process rather seamlessly.” Her advice to those navigating similar paths? “Explore the resources at your disposal, including your company’s legal benefits, your community’s resources, local legal services and beyond. Recently, 41 Samsung interns swapped their desks for gardens, parks and forests to volunteer with eight incredible nonprofits across the country. From supporting food equity in New Jersey to planting trees in Silicon Valley, they developed deeper connections to the communities where they live and work, while learning a few lessons along the way. Earlier this year Samsung pledged $1 Million in product donations for LA wildfire relief. This week’s story of impact takes us back to the Golden State to see how one of our partners, Team Rubicon, is using Samsung tech for wildfire relief efforts. Efforts that continue long after the flames are out. In the wake of devastating Los Angeles wildfires, Samsung partnered with Team Rubicon, a veteran-led organization that deploys trained volunteers, known as Greyshirts, to serve their communities before, during and after natural disasters and humanitarian crises. To support rebuild efforts, we equipped LA’s Team Rubicon with advanced communication devices to ensure seamless coordination in the field. Through our donation of Galaxy tablets, Team Rubicon launched a powerful new operational management app that’s transforming the way they serve. With real-time visibility into field operations, the app is helping them respond faster, smarter, and with greater precision. “What we’ve built, together with Samsung’s support, is more than a piece of software.
