  • Advances in heart care are happening at Scripps. Scripps Clinic cardiologist Rajeev Mohan, MD, is testing a new minimally invasive device that may bring relief to patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). One patient, Amy Vasquez, received the device during an earlier clinical trial phase and noticed immediate improvements. "Almost immediately," Vasquez said when asked how quickly she noticed a difference. "It was amazing. It was like, you know, probably getting to the top of Mount Everest or something like that. For me, it was, I got to the top, and I was just overjoyed." Read how this clinical trial is offering new hope: www.scripps.org/8004li

Registered Nurse at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Cardiac Acute Unit

Over the past 10 months, I have been a part of the Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) as a New Graduate RN. Just a week ago, I graduated from the program alongside the rest of Cohort 60. On my very first day as a nurse, I admitted a patient coming in for end of life care. It was pretty ironic to me that on my first day as a nurse, I wasn’t necessarily “saving lives.” I was nervous, scared, and uncertain of how to take care of this patient (it was really my first day on the job!). Fast forward 40 weeks, I’ve seen everything in the book that I feel confident in taking care of a variety of patients. I’m no longer scared to start an IV or message a provider. This unit has challenged me and pushed me to be a better nurse. I am especially thankful for my main coaches, Angella & Crystal, the DEU leadership, the PCAs, and my wonderful cohort for all of the support and encouragement during this rigorous program. In a few weeks, I’m excited to return to the Cardiac Acute Unit at Scripps Health !
