Gear up for the Geospatial AI “ChatGPT moment”, when Large Earth Models truly work out and change everything. While a lot of amazing progress has been made by tech companies and startups (Pachama included) in the field of Geospatial AI, it’s still in its infancy. So much investment and attention has gone to LLMs and generative AI for images and videos; yet AI models to understand, simulate and track our planetary systems can have an even more outsized impact on the future of humanity and life on Earth. The amount of data that gets collected every day by satellites, airplanes, drones and terrestrial sensors is already gigantic and it will only grow exponentially. Imagine what will be possible when geospatial AI models have the proficiency that LLM models are achieving today... In the last SF Climate Week, we organized the first AI for Nature Forum at the iconic Salesforce Tower, gathering brilliant minds from science, tech, policy and business working around this area. We now want to explore an AI for Nature Initiative (we're calling it "AINI") to keep aligning builders in the space around bold visions for the future of Earth, powered by this revolution.
