Virginia works as a Senior Testing Engineer on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) team, supporting the Benefits and Memorials Services Portfolio. Her primary focus is on the Compensation and Pension project, where she tests and validates batch applications, develops test procedures, and reviews specifications. As part of the IV&V team, her work helps ensure the quality and reliability of the systems that support the delivery of Veterans’ benefits and memorial services. We asked Virginia, “How does Sierra7 honor its mission of “serving those who serve?” She responded, “The company lives its mission not only through the work we do, but also through the people who do it. Sierra7 is a Veteran-owned company that employs many Veterans, and fosters a culture grounded in purpose, respect, and service. Before joining the IV&V team, I served as a Section 508 Enablement Team Lead under Compliance, Risk, and Remediation (CRR) in the Office of Information and Technology (OIT) at the VA, where I led extensive accessibility audits to ensure compliance with Section 508 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) across a wide range of digital products, software platforms, and electronic content, helping ensure that VA services were accessible to all. Now, I support the Compensation and Pension project, where our work directly impacts Veterans and their families. Jason has been a Sierra7 employee for four years and currently works as a Performance Test Lead on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Benefits Management Systems (VBMS) team. His role includes managing the day-to-day test schedule with the test engineers and external customers who share the same test environment and attending leadership meetings to discuss daily updates across their systems and applications. The project he supports and tests is the Veteran Benefits System, which allows Veterans to submit claims, have those claims rated with a percentage, and then generate an award for payment on their claim. We asked Jason, “Who or what inspires you professionally?” He replied, “The leadership team on the Benefits and Memorial (BAM) program truly inspires me every day. They are respectful, encouraging, loyal, and accountable.
