The Basic Science Division of The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) organizes the annual Graduate Excellence in Materials Science (GEMS) awards to recognize the outstanding achievements of graduate students in materials science and engineering. The GEMS award is open to all graduate students who are making an oral presentation in any symposium or session at MS&T25 in Columbus, OH, USA. All graduate-level students who have an accepted abstract for an oral presentation at MS&T are invited to apply for one of the awards. To apply, you must electronically submit: your accepted abstract for the oral presentation at MS&T25, the Symposium to which the abstract has been submitted, your latest CV, and a 500-word statement with the following criteria: Provide a statement describing your research, highlighting your scientific contribution to the basic science of glass and crystalline ceramics. The statement will be scored with respect to: Ability to convey motivation of work to general audience (assume knowledge of basic material science concepts) – 20 pts Quality of analysis and approach for testing a stated hypothesis or objective – 20 pts Demonstration of relevance to basic science of glass and crystalline ceramics – 10 pts ACerS BSD focuses on the fundamental mechanisms underlying the processing, behavior, and performance of ceramics materials.
