About us

Welcome House is committed to a goal of creating and maintaining residential community-based programs for the care and assistance of people who have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) regardless of their race, color, creed, religion or national origin. The West Haven Foundation was established in 1972 as an Ohio not-for-profit corporation. In 1981, the organization opened its first group home in Westlake and subsequently over the next thirteen years developed a variety of residential and community based programs and services in support of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 1994, West Haven began to focus its mission more on fund raising and elected to turn over all direct service delivery functions and responsibilities to Welcome House, Inc. Mission Statement: The Welcome House Way We are caring people committed to working together to promote the dignity of people with disabilities. We are caring people. We leave negativity at the door. We are open to diversity. We stand up for ourselves and for all that is important to us. We are here for a reason. We are committed to working together. We pick up the lettuce! We talk. We listen. We seek to understand. If we don't, we ask. We know we are going to make mistakes - so we own them and learn from them. We promote dignity. We do good. We find patience with others and ourselves. We forgive, learn and move forward. We always do the right thing.
