Please join us in congratulating Stephanie Horn, a monitor technician in the Central Telemetry Monitor Room at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, for receiving the Josie King Patient Safety Award! Stephanie was recognized for her vigilance and quick action in identifying an irregularity in a patient’s cardiac rhythm and escalating it immediately to the care team. Later, she spoke up again to ensure the patient received the right follow-up care — a decision that led to critical next steps and helped keep the patient safe. Stephanie’s dedication shows what our High Reliability Organization (HRO) journey is all about: everyone, at every level, plays a vital role in speaking up and prioritizing patient safety. Thank you, Stephanie, for reminding us that every watchful moment matters. 💙 #UMMSProud #JosieKingAward

Casey, a nurse in the Birthing Center at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, was nominated by a patient for her extraordinary care during a stressful and uncertain labor experience. From answering every question with patience to advocating for the safety of both mom and baby, Casey’s compassion and leadership made all the difference. “She helped us feel seen, heard, and cared for,” the patient wrote. “If we ever find ourselves in the waiting room for labor and delivery again, I hope it’s Casey’s face we see when the door opens.” Thank you, Casey, for showing what it means to lead with heart. 💙 #DAISYAward #UMMSProud #NursingExcellence #PatientExperience #ThankANurse

We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Giora Netzer, Vice President and Chief Experience Officer, for being named one of Becker's Healthcare's 2025 “Hospital and Health System CXOs to Know.” Since stepping into this inaugural role in 2022, Dr. Netzer has transformed how we think about experience, elevating it as a systemwide priority tied directly to quality, safety, and equity. Under his leadership, we’ve launched our first universal skills training program, created a shared vision for patient experience, and achieved an $11 million reduction in HCAHPS-related penalties. From interdisciplinary bedside rounding to implementing a family presence policy and equity-focused initiatives to reduce disparities. Dr. Netzer is setting a new standard for how we care for patients, families, and each other. Congratulations, Dr. Netzer, on this well-deserved national recognition!
