About us
A living memorial to the Holocaust, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum inspires citizens and leaders worldwide to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity. With unique power and authenticity, the Museum teaches millions of people each year about the dangers of unchecked hatred and the need to prevent genocide. And we encourage them to act, cultivating a sense of moral responsibility among our citizens so that they will respond to the monumental challenges that confront our world. Today we face an alarming rise in Holocaust denial and antisemitism—even in the very lands where the Holocaust happened—as well as genocide and threats of genocide in other parts of the world. All of this when we are soon approaching a time when Holocaust survivors and other eyewitnesses will no longer be alive. For Nat Shaffir, Holocaust survivor and Museum volunteer, and these October 7 survivors, antisemitism shattered their worlds. They met for the first time last week during a tour at our Museum and later spoke at the Nova Music Festival Exhibition in Washington, DC. Generations apart, the group stands as a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked hate.

Officer Stephen Tyrone Johns was fatally shot on June 10, 2009, by an avowed antisemite, Holocaust denier, and racist, while protecting visitors and colleagues. Officer Johns’s outgoing personality and generous spirit endeared him to all who entered the Museum. His memory occupies a permanent place in our hearts. https://lnkd.in/epc4ZYNb

Two antisemitic terrorist attacks in the U.S. in just 11 days are the outcome of the normalization of hatred of the Jewish people. There is a direct link between antisemitic speech and deadly violence. All sectors of society must condemn antisemitism, including anti-Zionism. https://lnkd.in/eCZSXkzQ
