Shein, the discount clothing retailer, said it is investigating an apparent image of Luigi Mangione that was used for a product listing on the site. On Sept. 2, a listing for a men's collared shirt began to circulate in social media posts. One of the product images, purportedly aiming to portray the shirt on a model, featured a man who looked like Mangione. Harvard University was handed a win in its legal battle against the Trump administration in its attempt to restore nearly $3 billion in federal funding. The decision from US District Judge Allison Burroughs in Boston on Sept. 3 rejected the administration’s argument that it was targeting the university funds due to allegations of antisemitism on Harvard’s campus. The Trump administration has argued its legal fights with several universities are over campus antisemitism, but Harvard sees a bigger battle regarding its overall academic freedom and federal spending.

On an August night in Texas, Pablo Pratt put his 1-year-old son to sleep and sat down with his wife, trying to make the numbers work. Back in college, my friend Junfu Han and I produced a series called a Simple Question for You, essentially a collection of person on the street interviews. I recall being so nervous to approach strangers. What if they said no? What if they were mean? Guess what? People did tell me to take a hike, and I didn't die. I moved onto the next person. I found myself thinking of that series for this piece about President Trump's review of the Smithsonian museums. I and three other reporters visited several locations off the National Mall to document the exhibits, and, yes, talk to strangers about their impressions of the museums.
