Dog Day Afternoon at Waveny! 🐾 It may be the dog days of summer, but that’s just fine with us at Waveny LifeCare Network! Yesterday, our residents at the Care Center and The Village were treated to some extra love and joy as volunteers and staff brought their four-legged friends for a special meet-and-greet. From wagging tails to wet noses, our residents had a wonderful time petting, cuddling, and connecting with so many beautiful breeds. Dogs are more than companions—they’re healers. Across the country, therapy dogs are known to bring comfort, reduce stress, and brighten spirits, and yesterday we got to see that magic firsthand. This week, residents explored Balanced Rock, a remarkable Hudson Valley landmark in nearby North Salem, NY that has sparked curiosity for generations. This 60-ton granite boulder, seemingly defying gravity atop limestone pillars, has led to various theories about its origins, from glacial deposits to ancient Celtic construction. We may never know its origin but it sure is a fun day trip going to see it. Yesterday, Waveny had the pleasure of hosting intuitive abstract artist Alana Rockland Kogan, who shared the story behind her vibrant, multi-dimensional acrylic paintings—on display at the Inn through the end of summer. Alana began her artistic journey in 2023 after an unexpected illness and subsequent kidney transplant, finding strength, peace, and perseverance through her creative process. Her work blends rich colors and layered textures to capture movement, emotion, and joy, with each piece reflecting her hope to inspire positivity in others. Music to our Ears! On Friday, August 1st, New Canaan High School Students, Kaleb Tan, Sofia Giammarco, Nancy Nan, and Sachi Malhotra performed on Main Street in the Village. This talented string quartet played a selection of classical and contemporary music which delighted our residents and staff alike. We are so grateful they chose to spend an afternoon entertaining us, and we look forward to their future visits. #NCHighSchool #StringQuartet
