There's pride in every Whataburger.

About us

On Aug. 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a simple goal: to serve a burger so big it took two hands to hold and so good that after one bite customers would say, “What a burger!” He succeeded on both counts and turned that one little burger stand into a legend loved throughout Texas and the South. Today, each and every Whataburger is made to order, right when it’s ordered. And they’re still made with 100 percent pure, never-frozen beef and served on a big toasted five-inch bun with all “the extras” to suit your taste. Grilled jalapeños, extra bacon, three slices of cheese, no tomatoes, extra pickles? No problem. Your Whataburger will be made just like you like it, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whataburger’s following has grown exponentially in its more than 75-year history, thanks to a number of features, including its famous burgers and growing list of menu items, its iconic orange-and-white-striped restaurants and its famous Fancy Ketchup. Whataburger is more than a burger chain. It’s a place that feels like home to more than 51,000 employees, called Family Members, and millions of customers. It’s a brand built on pride, care and love. It’s a place people count on in their communities. It’s a place where goodness lives. So now with more than 1,100 Whataburger restaurants across 16 states stretching from Las Vegas to the Carolinas, road-trippers and hometown folks alike continue gathering under the big orange-and-white roofs for fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly service.

  • We're celebrating National Whataburger Day with our customers today, but earlier this week, we got to celebrate our 75th anniversary with our Family Members at the home office! We had a hearty Whataburger breakfast, followed by hat & bracelet bars, arcade games, and even a mini golf course to work on our short game. ⛳️ Our sincerest thanks to our Family Members in the home office as well as everyone working hard in our restaurants across the country today as we share Goodness 24/7 with our loyal fans. We couldn’t do any of it without your passion, dedication, and heart! 🧡

  • Whataburger Fans, You’ve been riding shotgun with us for 75 years — so let’s throw it in reverse and cruise back to mile one. In 1950, Whataburger founder Harmon Dobson fired up a burger stand in Corpus Christi with one bold idea: Make a burger so big it took two hands to hold — and so good folks couldn’t help but say, “WHAT A BURGER!” That’s still the vibe. Fresh, 100% U.S.-sourced, never-frozen beef. Veggies sliced by hand daily. And if you’ve waited a few extra beats in our drive thru, you know why — your burger doesn’t hit the grill until you say go. Turns out, delicious takes a little longer. Worth. The. Wait. That same commitment to quality helped us grow to more than 1,100 neighborhoods across 17 states. And even though we branched out beyond Texas in 1959, we’ve never left home behind. Where it all started. Where our headquarters stand firmly in San Antonio. Wherever we go, we bring that spirit with us. To every Whataburger Family Member past and present who’s rocked that orange shirt: Thank you. For making people feel right at home. You turned orange and white into more than just colors. You made them a feeling. To our loyal fans: Thanks for making us part of your big moments. You’ve proposed in our dining rooms, passed out Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits at weddings and — yeah — we’ve noticed a few missing table tents. Just between us… we’re good with that. So here’s to Spicy Ketchup, late-night cravings, secret menu hacks and every story that starts with: “So … we were at Whataburger …” After 75 years, we’re still hot, still fresh, still yours, The Whataburger Family #Whataburger75

Our Cups That Care campaign has already raised more than $750,000 for the Texas Hill Country, but we're not done yet! We're proud to announce we're extending donations through the month of August with our second wave of Collectible Cups. Through Sept. 1, net proceeds from collectible cup sales will go towards flood relief. You can purchase the limited-edition cups at participating Whataburger restaurants across our footprint, or buy them online via the Whatastore. Give your drink a "cupgrade" and help us give back to our neighbors in need today! 🧡

  • Get your biscuit while it’s haute! 👜 Ashley Bean Thornton is a Whataburger superfan, and she's started her day with a Sausage Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit Sandwich nearly every morning for more than a decade. So, for Ashley's birthday, we brought her friends and family in to her local restaurant for a party and gave her a one-of-a-kind gift: a custom-made, hyper-realistic Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit purse! Thanks, Ashley, for all your support over the years and for making our mornings a little brighter! We hope your purse is proof that great taste never goes out of style.

  • Let's hear it for Lilly Underbrink! 🧡 The 9-year-old wanted to do something to help with recovery from the Texas Hill Country flooding this month. So, she opened Lilly's Lemons lemonade stand to raise funds for the cause, and earned more than $140+ to support our Cups That Care program. When she came to pick up her Collectible Cups at her local Whataburger, we had a special swag bag waiting for her along with lots of high-fives and hugs from our team members. Reminder: The Cups That Care program continues through the end of July, and 100% of the purchase price of our first Collectible Cups collection will go directly to flood relief. You can purchase the cups in our restaurants or drive thrus, or online at shop.whataburger.com. To date, we've raised more than $600,000 — help us get to $750,000 to help our neighbors in need!

UPDATE: Whatafans who want to support flooding relief efforts in the Texas Hill Country with our Cups That Care — but are too far from the wonderful glow of our orange and white restaurants to support the cause — now have a solution! The three cups in the first set are now available in the Whatastore at shop.whataburger.com, and through the rest of July, all proceeds will continue to go towards relief efforts. Since launching the campaign, nearly 200,000 cups have been sold! 🧡 Help us get to 400,000 — every dollar goes to flood relief and recovery.
