There's pride in every Whataburger.
About us
On Aug. 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a simple goal: to serve a burger so big it took two hands to hold and so good that after one bite customers would say, “What a burger!” He succeeded on both counts and turned that one little burger stand into a legend loved throughout Texas and the South. Today, each and every Whataburger is made to order, right when it’s ordered. And they’re still made with 100 percent pure, never-frozen beef and served on a big toasted five-inch bun with all “the extras” to suit your taste. Grilled jalapeños, extra bacon, three slices of cheese, no tomatoes, extra pickles? No problem. Your Whataburger will be made just like you like it, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whataburger’s following has grown exponentially in its more than 75-year history, thanks to a number of features, including its famous burgers and growing list of menu items, its iconic orange-and-white-striped restaurants and its famous Fancy Ketchup. Whataburger is more than a burger chain. It’s a place that feels like home to more than 51,000 employees, called Family Members, and millions of customers. It’s a brand built on pride, care and love. It’s a place people count on in their communities. It’s a place where goodness lives. So now with more than 1,100 Whataburger restaurants across 16 states stretching from Las Vegas to the Carolinas, road-trippers and hometown folks alike continue gathering under the big orange-and-white roofs for fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly service.

When we announced our "Texiest" burger ever, we didn't know a Dallas baker would match our energy with the "Texiest Cake Ever Baked!" 🤯 To keep the Texas-sized excitement going, we delivered the cake as a surprise to the family members at Whataburger Unit #790! From the intricate hand-crafted details to the funfetti-filled center, it was the perfect way to celebrate the team's hard work bringing the Bacon Wrangler Double to life every day for our customers.

In 2019, Anthony Piekarski and his family packed up and moved from Texas to Indiana, but Whataburger was never far from his heart — or his fridge. His local restaurant sent them off with four cases of Whataburger ketchup to tide them over. Anthony shared his story with us for our 75th anniversary, and we knew we could go even bigger for this Whatafan. Whataguy surprised him in Fort Wayne with a ketchup restock AND an invitation for the entire Piekarski family to join us in Corpus Christi for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to celebrate Whataburger where it all began. #Whataburger75

Orange never looked so good! 🧡 From Whataguy’s mascot friends from across the Coastal Bend to superfans rocking glitter fry tiaras, the orange spirit was everywhere you looked at Orange Out Night at Whataburger Field last week! It was a perfect evening to celebrate our 75th birthday in our hometown alongside the community that’s been cheering with us since Day 1. Members of Whataburger’s founding family and our President & CEO Debbie Stroud joined the fun alongside some of our longest-serving Family Members, making the night capped by orange and white fireworks even more special. #Whataburger75

We're celebrating National Whataburger Day with our customers today, but earlier this week, we got to celebrate our 75th anniversary with our Family Members at the home office! We had a hearty Whataburger breakfast, followed by hat & bracelet bars, arcade games, and even a mini golf course to work on our short game. ⛳️ Our sincerest thanks to our Family Members in the home office as well as everyone working hard in our restaurants across the country today as we share Goodness 24/7 with our loyal fans. We couldn’t do any of it without your passion, dedication, and heart! 🧡

Whataburger Fans, You’ve been riding shotgun with us for 75 years — so let’s throw it in reverse and cruise back to mile one. In 1950, Whataburger founder Harmon Dobson fired up a burger stand in Corpus Christi with one bold idea: Make a burger so big it took two hands to hold — and so good folks couldn’t help but say, “WHAT A BURGER!” That’s still the vibe. Fresh, 100% U.S.-sourced, never-frozen beef. Veggies sliced by hand daily. And if you’ve waited a few extra beats in our drive thru, you know why — your burger doesn’t hit the grill until you say go. Turns out, delicious takes a little longer. Worth. The. Wait. That same commitment to quality helped us grow to more than 1,100 neighborhoods across 17 states. And even though we branched out beyond Texas in 1959, we’ve never left home behind. Where it all started. Where our headquarters stand firmly in San Antonio. Wherever we go, we bring that spirit with us. To every Whataburger Family Member past and present who’s rocked that orange shirt: Thank you. For making people feel right at home. You turned orange and white into more than just colors. You made them a feeling. To our loyal fans: Thanks for making us part of your big moments. You’ve proposed in our dining rooms, passed out Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits at weddings and — yeah — we’ve noticed a few missing table tents. Just between us… we’re good with that. So here’s to Spicy Ketchup, late-night cravings, secret menu hacks and every story that starts with: “So … we were at Whataburger …” After 75 years, we’re still hot, still fresh, still yours, The Whataburger Family #Whataburger75
