What I Learnt Today #124 I Art & Culture Saturday’s Violent Amnesia and Oscar Murillo Kettle’s Yard, my favorite corner in Cambridge dedicated to art, is hosting an exhibition of works by Oscar Murillo titled Violent Amnesia (on till June 23rd). Oscar was born in 1986 in Colombia and moved to London as a ten years old. He was also nominated for the Turner Prize for 2019 along side Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Helen Cammock and Tai Shani. According to a BBC report he was an instant hit when he broke into the art scene about 6 years back. His current semi abstract paintings on un-stretched canvasses hanging limply like curtains in a bedsit with too few hooks, are more like installations than paintings. His work, like his co finalists ‘blurrs fact and fiction and (focuses on the) exploration of oppression', identity and politics of the marginalised people. #alwayslearning #art #culture
