The Book Leads – Episode 36: Cory Carlson & Rise & Go: How to Get Back Up with Courage and Move Forward with Confidence For this episode, Cory Carlson provides some background on his career and book. It’s been great to learn about what prompted his original journey into civil engineering and why he later pivoted away from that career, trading hats from being an executive himself to coaching executives instead. What stood out most in my conversation with Cory is how much he admits his faults, humbling himself as a flawed man who is always moving forward, practicing the work of courage and confidence, both of which are based in his faith and that he covers in Rise and Go. The power of humility, I believe, is what makes a great coach – cutting the BS, dropping the veneer, admitting shortcomings, and building from a true, genuine base, not an unstable facade. We’re all works in progress. Knowing that and taking action is what matters most. It's an open and honest conversation -- and yet another great path of life a guest has shared with me through this series. Some highlights from this episode: ·  “When you’re in the valley, you don’t even know what you want.” ·  “Confidence is believing more in yourself and what you’re doing by getting your reps in.” ·  What Cory means when he says, “God has the night shift.” ·  The purpose of Cory’s regular routine of putting on his armor.   Mentioned or Applicable Books: ·  How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie ·  Win at Home First: An Inspirational Guide to Work-Life Balance by Cory Carlson ·   Grit: The Power of Passion & Perseverance by Angela Duckworth The MAIN QUESTION for you, which underlies my conversation with Cory is, Where do you find the strength and motivation to get up and keep moving forward? SHARE BELOW! Cory’s Bio: As an entrepreneur, former executive, husband, and father of three, Cory Carlson understands the pressures working parents face. He is passionate about helping business leaders win at home and work. Twenty years in corporate America gave Cory amazing opportunities as he worked his way up to the executive level. But he also saw brokenness: work without purpose, burnout, lack of focus, strained marriages, and absentee parents. Business leaders especially were often not living life to the fullest. When Cory discovered coaching, it helped him become a better leader, husband, and father. So he left his corporate career to help other leaders win at work and at home. Cory does this through executive coaching, speaking, and writing.
