Projects

  • High Pressure Diffuser (to be used in Cleanrooms)

    -

    Design Function:
In a team of five, we designed a fully functional High pressure Diffusser prototype that creates a pressured drop from inlet pressure range of 40-100[psg] to atmospheric pressure while maintaining a flow rate of about 1CFM to the particle counter. This functionality is facilitated by use of several calculated orifice combinations, exhaust chamber to relieve excess gasses and ambient air bleed-in chamber to add in moisture content to the processed gas.

This functionality is facilitated by use of several calculated orifice combinations, exhaust chamber to relieve excess gasses and ambient air bleed-in chamber to add in moisture content to the processed gas.
Eventually, this product will be used to help monitor particle contamination level in clean-room applications (by Semiconductor companies).

    My Contributions:
    • Customer and competitor Interviews(PMS, Seagate, U of M nanotech center, TSI)
    • Concept design generation and creation of product design specifications
    • Research: Unions, tube fittings, filters and Engineering Analysis technical articles
    • Stress analysis and CFD engineering analysis in ANSYS CFX 15.0(presented results to team)
    • 3D models, prototype 3D printing and a simulation video of the product assembly process
    • Physical testing of final prototype with different combination of orifices
    • Wrote the Design Description: ANSYS and Appendix for CFD

With this task specific automatic whiteboard wiper, both teachers and students will be relieved from repetitive manual wiping of the whiteboard. First, LED flashes continuously and turns off when the switch button is pressed. The wiper then starts to move across the whiteboard. There are two lever switches, two switch controllers and a bidirectional motor that control the back and forth movement of the wiper. When the switch controller is in contact with the lever switch on the right, the motor rotates to the left until the left switch controller hits the second lever switch on the left. This causes the motor to move in the reverse direction until the switch controller to the right gets into contact with the lever switch on the right. The wiper keeps going back and forth to a counter of four by the same lever switch - switch controller mechanism until the whiteboard is fully cleaned. After four runs, the LED flashes again and waits for the switch button to be pressed again. Interesting mechanisms in this robot are the ball bearing wheels sliding inside the grove, switch mechanism and the ability to replace the wiper.

  • Thermal conductivity of Aluminum, Steel and brass rods

    -

The purpose of this independent project was to experimentally determine the thermal conductivity of steel, brass, and aluminum metals. Study of thermal conduction of metals is a phenomenon that everybody in general, particularly the engineers, should be aware of in their everyday life. From this study, we get to know which metal is the best for conduction of heat. Aluminum has the highest thermal conductivity followed by Steel then Brass.
