Converting it is step two. *Know the company like it’s on your account list. *Understand their customers, their pain points, their market. *Anticipate objections (aka tough interview questions). *Come with a POV, not just answers. If I was looking for my first SDR, Here's the exact 4-part process I'd use: 1. Build your “Dream 10” list. ↳Pick 10–12 companies you’d actually want to sell for. ↳Just like companies have non-negotiables when hiring—you should too. ↳Think industry, team size, remote vs hybrid, and leadership style. ↳Be selective. You’re not just job hunting. You’re qualifying accounts. 2. Prospect into the company ↳Go on LinkedIn and find the hiring manager or sales leader at each company. ↳Then connect with 5–10 SDRs or AEs on that team. ↳It signals you’re proactive—and already thinking like a rep. 3. Create your own outreach sequence. ↳When someone accepts your request, send a short, personalized Loom video. ↳Find their contact info on Apollo. ↳Follow up with a cold call and voicemail within 24 hours. ↳Send a follow-up email 48 hours later. ↳Track it all on a spreadsheet like a mini pipeline. 4. Build a 'Why You Should Hire Me' presentation. ↳This was the game-changer when I was on the market. ↳I used Aligned to build a custom page for each company. ↳Inside: my 90-day plan, a cold call script, and a sample email sequence. ↳No one asked me for it—but that’s the point. It shows initiative and sales acumen. The truth is: The job market is noisy and competitive. If you are an SDR looking to personalize emails, this post is for you. (Tested 100s of b2b cold emails) Here's a guide to get you started: 1/ Relevance >> Personalization • Don't force it • Avoid generic references • Avoid personal comments ✓ Refer very specific relevant data ✓ Refer role-specific pain points Don't write: "Saw your post, your dog is very cute." Write: 1. "Read your article on [X]. [Y] point really stood out..." 2. "Noticed you're hiring for [X]. Thought you might be..." 3. "Not sure if this goes to you or your [colleague]..." 2/ Role-specific value prop • Mention clearly how you can help them and in how long. • Make it specific to their role and industry Example: "We help fintech PMs validate ideas through research studies with CFOs within 14 days so they can focus on what finance teams actually want." 3/ Free value CTA + social proof • Offer to share free value (videos, case studies, guides) • Tie CTA down to prospects specific scenario Example: "We helped Stripe better understand brand perception by running an online survey with 500 participants within 3 weeks. Created a loom breaking this down - mind if I share it?" 4/ PS personalization (optional) • You can maybe refer personal life here. • If you run a guarantee or risk reversal, prioritize that over personalization while writing PS, always. Example: "PS - Saw that you're a new homeowner. Your house looks absolutely beautiful. Congratulations! :)" Try it and track your results. My reply rate increased from 1% to 5% doing this. (should optimize further) But, don't personalize if you don't have the data. No personalization >> Bad/generic personalization Drop suggestions on how I can improve it further? 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 To avoid spam filters, you need dynamic content and Spintax, these personalize and vary each email so every message is unique. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 Blank request. If they accept, your chances of getting a reply go up. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟰: 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 By now, they’ve seen your name via LinkedIn + Email, so your call feels warm, not cold. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟱: 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘂𝗽 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 No response? Follow up with a new angle. But deliverability is important. If your emails aren’t landing, fix it. - Check domain & mailbox health before sending. - Run spam tests so emails don’t get flagged. "I need SDR experience to get hired as an SDR." The truth? You need to SHOW you can do the job while finding the job. Here’s how: 1️⃣ Define Your ICP (Ideal Company Profile) Stop blindly applying to every sales role. Find SaaS companies hiring SDRs. Look at Series A, Series B startups (they need pipeline). Startups also don't have a rigid hiring process, so this method works best with them. Focus on industries growing in India—AI, fintech, B2B SaaS. 2️⃣ Prospect Like an SDR You’re not applying; you’re outbounding. Find the hiring manager (Sales Manager, SDR Lead, VP Sales, Founders). Go beyond job portals—check LinkedIn, company pages, funding news, revenue, industry, product. 3️⃣ Find Contact Details You don’t wait for recruiters to see your application. Use Apollo.io, Lusha to get emails. Use their free credits or if you want to invest minimally into a tool - Mr E by Easyleadz is great (it's a cold calling relevant tool though) 4️⃣ Cold Call / Cold Email / LinkedIn Outreach 🚀 If an SDR books meetings, you book interviews. Cold email: Show you researched them. Attach a video note/ or dummy cold call. Cold call them: This is boss move, if you can pull this one out - you'd have great great success.. LinkedIn DMs: Not “Hi Sir, I need a job” → Instead, “mentioned in comments” 5️⃣ Stand Out with Video Messages & Call Recordings Not a lot of people are doing this. Record a 30s video pitch instead of a text-heavy message. Show how you’d prospect for THEM. If you cold call and get a rejection? Record a voice note sharing what you learned. 💡 Most people think SDR hiring is about "experience." ❌ It’s about PROVING you can generate pipeline. ❌ It’s about SHOWING you can hustle. The SDR job hunt = Doing the SDR job. If you do this, hiring managers will notice you. And the best part? You won’t need to “apply” like everyone else.
