“Matt is one of those rare Naval officers not only with degrees both in economics and advanced physics but who was able to relate in a meaningful way to his students the complex thought processes and the decision-making skills that they would require as officers in the Navy and Marine Corps. He constantly challenged his students and himself by engaging on a personal level and bringing all the technological teaching tools to bear. Additionally, he took on financial responsibilities well above his paygrade, managing and accounting for tens of thousands of dollars of research money for the physics department. It was a pleasure to serve and to teach with Matt.”
