Accountant and RE Bookkeeper

Job Summary:

The Real Estate Property Accountant and Bookkeeper will manage the financial records, bookkeeping, and accounting processes for a portfolio of properties. This role involves maintaining accurate ledgers, processing transactions, preparing financial statements, overseeing budgets, and collaborating with property managers to optimize financial performance. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and bookkeeping skills, preferably in real estate, and proficiency with industry-specific software.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Bookkeeping: 
  • Record daily financial transactions, including rent payments, vendor invoices, and operating expenses, in property management software (e.g., Yardi,). 
  • Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy. 
  • Process accounts payable (e.g., vendor payments) and accounts receivable (e.g., tenant rent and fees), resolving discrepancies promptly. 
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and supporting documentation. 
  • Track and categorize expenses for each property to support budgeting and reporting.
  • Accounting: 
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for assigned properties. 
  • Manage rent collection, tenant billing, and lease accounting, ensuring compliance with lease agreements. 
  • Develop and analyze property budgets, forecasts, and variance reports, collaborating with property managers to optimize financial performance. 
  • Support investors by providing accurate records and addressing inquiries. 
  • Monitor cash flow, manage loan compliance covenants, and prepare reports for lenders and investors.
  • Additional Duties: 
  • Implement and maintain accounting and bookkeeping procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, real estate industry regulations. 
  • Collaborate with property managers to address financial inquiries and support operational goals. 
  • Prepare year end tenant CAM reconciliations.


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred but not required for candidates with strong bookkeeping experience). 
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping, with a focus on real estate or property management preferred. 
  • Proficiency in accounting and property management software (e.g., Yardi, Agora QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with property managers, vendors, and stakeholders. 
  • Knowledge of lease agreements and real estate industry practices is highly desirable.
