The Opportunity
At Potomac, we don’t do bloated org charts or endless committee meetings. We’re a ~$2.5B AUM/AUA asset manager that serves independent broker-dealers and RIAs with one mission: to cut through the noise and deliver results.
Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, we combine institutional-grade investment expertise with a quantitative process that is Built to Conquer Risk®.
As Communications Director, you will oversee all corporate communications, creating lead generation campaigns, nurturing leads through our marketing funnel, managing our public relations initiatives, and expanding our brand's visibility through both established and emerging channels.
This role requires a savvy communicator and creative strategist who blends deep messaging experience with performance marketing acumen. You will work closely with the CMO to develop campaigns that build trust, drive engagement, and convert interest into long-term relationships.
Additionally, we utilize the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to keep our teams focused and accountable, enabling us to identify and address both challenges and opportunities effectively.
You’ll oversee: Corporate Communications, Content Distribution, Public Relations.
Nothing will go out the door without your eyes on it first.
What You’ll Do
Corporate Communications and Content Distribution
- Oversee the implementation of Potomac’s brand messaging strategy across all internal and external touchpoints.
- Ensure consistency in tone, style, and quality of communication across teams, channels, and content types.
Lead Generation and Funnel Management
- Create and manage lead generation campaigns via email marketing, paid and organic social media, and content distribution strategies.
- Build and segment lists for targeted outreach based on events, personas, and product availability.
- Work cross-functionally with Potomac’s sales and operations teams to optimize nurture paths, email drips, and conversion flows through the entire funnel.
Public Relations and Media Outreach
- Manage relationships with PR agencies, media outlets, and journalists to drive earned media, speaking engagements, guest appearances, and thought leadership opportunities.
- Identify and pitch stories that elevate the firm’s leadership, research, and market insights.
Marketing Analytics and KPIs
- Define, track, and report on key marketing and communications metrics including engagement, lead quality, channel performance, and ROI.
- Continuously test and refine messaging strategies to improve performance.
Channel Expansion and Innovation
- Research, pilot, and scale new distribution channels and content formats that engage our audience (e.g., podcasts, video, influencer partnerships, etc.).
- Keep abreast of industry trends and innovations to ensure we remain at the forefront of communications and investor engagement.
What Success Looks Like
- Content and Communications go live. (on time, within scope, no excuses)
- Teams are aligned and moving fast.
- Production moves along without drama, freeing the CMO to focus on strategic initiatives.
- Marketing scales without losing its voice.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or related roles — preferably in finance, investment management, or professional services.
- Proven track record managing lead generation campaigns and nurturing leads through marketing funnels.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills — with a keen understanding of financial terminology and audience segmentation.
- Experience with email platforms (HubSpot), analytics tools and social media management.
- Adept at managing external agencies, internal stakeholders, and high-stakes projects with tight deadlines.
- Strategic mindset with a hands-on attitude — ready to ideate, execute, and optimize.
Why Potomac?
- Work directly with the CMO and executive team on high-impact projects.
- Collaborate with smart, driven professionals in an intellectually rigorous environment.
- We offer competitive compensations, bonuses, and a benefits package designed to attract top-tier leadership talent.
Potomac is not your typical asset manager. We cut through the industry BS with brutal transparency and an obsession with execution. If you’re looking for a slow pace and low volume, this isn’t for you.
If you want to drive, build, and scale, this is your shot.
