We are looking for a skilled Controller to join our team in Columbia, Maryland, on a long-term contract basis. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a non-profit organization by overseeing financial operations and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The role will begin as a part-time engagement, with flexible hours and the potential for increased involvement over time.
Responsibilities: • Manage all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and non-profit accounting requirements. • Conduct task analysis and time studies to optimize financial processes. • Handle bank deposits and reconcile monthly bank accounts to maintain financial accuracy. • Prepare journal entries and oversee monthly closing activities. • Manage accounts receivable tasks, including billing funders, collecting payments, and posting transactions. • Develop budget modifications and monitor spending to align with organizational goals. • Supervise accounts payable and approve bi-weekly payroll transactions. • Provide bi-monthly financial reports to the Board, offering insights into organizational performance. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations as well as licensing requirements. • Maintain the integrity of financial systems and perform other related duties as assigned. • Proficiency in Sage Intacct for financial management and reporting. • Strong experience in non-profit accounting, including knowledge of compliance standards. • Familiarity with payroll systems, particularly Paylocity. • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial operations. • Ability to work collaboratively within a remote team environment. • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements at the local, state, and federal levels. • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. • Effective communication skills for presenting financial data and collaborating with stakeholders.
