This position will be approximately 50 percent allocated to HDR’s corporate Engineering Master Specifications System (MSS) and 50 percent on specific tasks or work in the Water Business Group. The position entails development of construction specifications, including general requirements (Division 01) and “technical” specifications (Divisions 02 through 48) with the assistance of technical specialists. This work will primarily be for the Engineering MSS; a system of over 500 Engineering master specifications. Some direct project work will be required and may include developing project specifications or engineering project work.
In this role, we'll count on you to:
Assist the Engineering National Specifications Manager in maintaining, updating, and developing master specification content.
Work cooperatively with technical specialists from among various business groups to develop and drive master specification content and updates.
Work with project teams to develop specifications and other construction documents for direct projects.
Providing guidance on specification and contract documents development.
Work with Alternative and Integrated Delivery and Owner’s Advisor (AO) groups regarding specification development and resources in these contracting environments.
Provide education to staff about best practices, products, and specifications.
Coordination with business group Professional Services Directors on prioritization and progress of technical specification development.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in water/wastewater/water resources, environmental, civil, or structural engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license
CSI Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) certification, Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) certification, or Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification.
Familiarity with organizational formats published by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), standard contract documents published by the Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC), and other standard contract writing organizations such as AIA and DBIA.
Minimum 10 years of experience working with specifications, design, and construction.
Experienced with construction contract administration, including construction claims resolution.
Familiar with specifications management software such as Chalkline VisiSpecs.
Experienced with Microsoft SharePoint
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering or combination of education and relevant experience
A minimum of 5 years experience working with specifications
Knowledge in the ability to recommend materials, procedures, and technical specifications requirements and contents
Experience with Microsoft Office
