Help Keep the Mission on Track as a General Ledger Accountant

Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital is seeking a meticulous and proactive General Ledger Accountant to support the Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, this position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close, and providing timely reporting that drives mission-focused decision-making.
This work helps ensure financial resources are used wisely—expanding access to transformative leadership experiences for Girl Scouts across the region.
What This Role Will Do
Manage and maintain the general ledger, including the chart of accounts
Monthly reconciliations (bank, investment, and revenue)
Monthly and annual financial statements
Maintain and update monthly close schedules
Assist the Controller with audit preparation and IRS Form 990 workpapers
Support department managers with financial reporting and analysis
Review journal entries from the Finance & Accounting Specialist prior to posting
Collaborate with the Philanthropy team on the funding pipeline
Reconcile fundraising platform reports with bank deposits
Provide ad hoc reports and support as needed
What Makes a Strong Candidate
Experience with the general ledger and 2–4+ years of accounting experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Interest in improving systems and streamlining processes
Strong skills in Excel and Microsoft Office
Clear and effective communication, including with non-financial colleagues
Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
Nonprofit accounting experience is a plus (but not required)
Familiarity with the Girl Scout movement is welcome
To ensure alignment with the technical requirements of the role, strong candidates will be asked to complete a brief accounting exercise later in the hiring process, focused on journal entries and financial statement fundamentals.

The starting salary range for this position is $75,000 - $78,000.
