Location: San Jose, California | Remote

Salary Range: $83,000 to $130,000

  • This position is eligible for the annual performance bonus plan.

THE ENGINEERING TEAM

With an in-house team of electrical engineers, designers, VDC coordinators and CAD operators, our resources rival those of standalone engineering firms. We are a true provider of turnkey electrical solutions—from design to delivery. As a part of this department, you can expect to work closely with our project management and field installation teams to streamline the construction process.

About The Role

Engineer Level 3: An independent CAD designer with functional knowledge in designing small- and large-scale solar PV/BESS projects ranging from 1 to 500+ MW. Independently evaluates and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Receives instructions on specific assignments, complex features, and possible solutions. Work is reviewed for correctness and application of the QAQC Process and professional judgment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May supervise or coordinate the work of other Designers and CAD drafters

Essential Job Functions:

  • Independently perform design and drafting tasks assigned by lead engineers
  • Perform design of construction drawings including but not limited to equipment layouts, electrical site plans, and electrical diagrams
  • Independently produce and/or manage the production of site layouts and drawing sets on multiple projects in support of dedicated project teams
  • Coordinate with civil and structural consultants to collect and consolidate the necessary information for system layout development
  • Assemble design drawings and documents and provide or coordinate delivery
  • Provide engineering support and follow QAQC processes through design and construction phases
  • Train, develop, and provide mentorship to new hires and less experienced designers
  • Actively participate in the development and maintenance of CAD standards and templates

Other Functions:

  • Act as technical resource to less experienced designers, estimators, and project managers
  • May occasionally attend site visits as needed
  • Maintain professional and technical development goals

Other Responsibilities:

  • Develop understanding of the engineering department's design and CAD workflows
  • Develop understanding of CEI's business inter-department functions
  • Provide conformance to the standards and processes outlined by the CAD Manager

About You

  • AutoCAD (advanced proficiency)
  • Microsoft Office Applications (advanced proficiency)
  • PVsyst (desired)
  • Demonstrable understanding of various state and national codes governing our work
  • Immaculate file management skills
  • Possess meticulous work habits including close attention to detail, superior organizational skills, ability to effectively communicate and present technical information verbally and in writing via Microsoft Office applications (mainly Excel and Word)
  • Excellent time management and people skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Engineering Bachelor of Science degree

Licensure/Certifications:

Experience: Track record of passion for renewable energy projects. 5-7 years working for an electrical design firm or design build electrical contractor. Solar electrical systems background.
