Strategic Intent
The Staff Accountant ensures the integrity of accounting information for the purpose of reporting to internal and external parties, in accordance with U.S. GAAP. In order to meet the company’s financial reporting goals, the Staff Accountant prepares and records transactions; reconciles and researches accounts; and prepares and verifies financial schedules and reports.
Organizational Structure
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Finance
General Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares and records journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
Maintains and balances source and general ledger accounts through calculation, allocation and reconciliation of variances and discrepancies.
Supports AP/AR Management Process
Assists Account Reconciliation Process
Responds to accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
Assists with gathering and compiling data as requested by auditors to ensure timely completion of the annual audit.
Assists with the budget process, Treasury department requests, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes.
Meets monthly transactional and reporting deadlines for internal and external consumers.
Assists with special projects and ad hoc requests assigned by management.
Responsible for planning and organizing his or her own work within set guidelines. Maintains clear and organized files and procedures.
Adheres to all established company internal controls.
Understands and protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
Develops and documents business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Perform any other job related duties as assigned.
Updates work knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
Experience And Requirements
2+ years of accounting experience, including general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations; participation in month-end close process, accounts receivable or accounts payable experience.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance is required.
Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook.
Ability to think critically, use judgment, and solve problems, make decisions independently and take on new tasks with a high level of difficulty.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and adjust to changing demands.
