From the course: A Beginner's Guide to Writing User Stories

Writing user stories

- We know what our customers want. Could have been Blockbusters, the now defunct global movie rental chain? Famous last words. Saying you know what your customers or stakeholders want, and actually knowing what they want through proven product development practices is the difference between failure and success for a company. And so enters our need for user stories, the ability to properly map and explain exactly what your customers or stakeholders need and what they're trying to accomplish. My name is Dylan Jensen and I am an Agile coach whose passion lies in seeing organizations make Agile into more than a buzzword through leadership, company behaviors, and team practices. In this course, I'll walk you through how to utilize user stories in your daily work regardless of whether or not you work in an Agile environment. To get started, I'll explain what user stories are and why they are important. From there, I'll share with you step-by-step directions on how to write proper descriptions and acceptance criteria for your user stories. And to finish, I'll point out some common pitfalls individuals and teams face when writing and utilizing user stories so you know how to avoid them. Is this new to you? This course is the perfect place to start. Already familiar with user stories? I'll give you some fresh new ideas to improve your user stories. Whatever your previous experience, this course will help you dive into the mind of your stakeholders and customers so you can provide true and accurate value to those you work with. You're a busy person, so let's not waste any time.
