- [Instructor] This movie really doesn't address a specific note about this song, but addresses a very important part of my mixing technique, and something that's kind of a pet peeve of mine, when it's not adhered to by other mixers. When I hear a mix that violates this rule, I generally get a little tweaked. So what it amounts to is getting an inner balance of the drum kit, especially a live drum kit. I'm going to go to this section of the song here and play you the whole song together, and I'll make my point. You've heard this song before, it's "It Follows" by Waterparks. Pay attention to the inner elements of the drum kit. The high hat drives it and you hear the tom feels plainly and clearly. Kick and snare have their own balance. That's another floor tom.
