- [Instructor] Designing with user preferences in mind allows your product to look great while adapting to each user's unique setup and preferences. Let's go through some of the best ways to do this. Light and dark modes are more than an aesthetic choice. They accommodate users with different light sensitivities or contrast requirements to make content more legible and comfortable to view. Some users experience discomfort when viewing bright screens with a lot of white light, and rely on dark mode. Other users may experience unwanted shimmering and streaking when viewing content on dark backgrounds, and find light mode better. The key is offering choice and testing that the website automatically changes theme based on the user's operating system preferences.
